Cameron Up For Alien 5

Aliens director James Cameron told Empire Online that's he interested in developing—but not helming—a fifth film in the popular SF franchise. "We're definitely looking at another Alien film, but that wouldn't be something I'd be directing," he told the site. "I'm just going to be writing and producing that one."

Cameron added that he's interested in developing a movie adaptation of Anne Rice's supernatural novel Ramses The Dam-ned (also titled The Mummy), the site reported. Cameron would not direct this film either and said he's waiting for the right time. "We've been holding off, because of the two Mummy films that Universal did," he said. "Although they're very different tonally, they are very much in the same area code in terms of the imagery you'd see."

DK: Talk about any alien movie in this subject.....

Alien 5: Whilst promoting "Holes", Sigourney Weaver talked with The Chicago Sun Times about a further 'Alien' adventure: "Ridley Scott and I have talked about it a couple of times. He has some ideas. If we developed a good script, I'd love to play Ripley again. I've always felt so grateful to Ridley Scott because he gave me my first job...The only thing I'm not interested in is going to earth. I saw that 'Star Trek' movie where they went to Earth and ... yawn. I think it's more fun to go to a foreign planet--especially now. Who wants to come to Earth now? Let's go far, far away! Fantasy is what we need!".

I'm not so sure a 5 alien would be a good idea. number 4 seemed to have lost the plot element a bit and friends tell me (i havent seen it) that alien 3 isnt really up to scratch. I like the first 2, but its like any series: after too many sequels they tend to go awry. I suspect this will also happen with matrix 2.

Alien/Aliens Re-Release: FilmJerk has great news for fans of these two absolute gems of cinema - the first of which is making a big screen comeback when it gets re-released this Halloween: "Through contacts within Fox Films we've learned that the film [Alien] will be getting most, if not all, of the cut footage restored back into the narrative. Final details are still being worked out, but our source tells us the film's soundtrack will also be remastered to take advantage of today's digital cinema sound formats, and will be positioned as a major fall release, to play on over 2,000 screens. Should this rerelease become successful, like the "Star Wars" trilogy and "Exorcist" rereleases, tentative plans have already been set to release James Cameron's restored cut of "Aliens" into theatres next spring".

Alien 5 & 6,

The Zap2it Web site reported preliminary details of the fifth and sixth films in the popular Aliens franchise, which will feature Sigourney Weaver's character, Ripley, defending the Earth from colonization by the evil aliens. According to the site, Weaver has said that she would be interested in reprising her role for the sequels.

The site revealed that the fifth film will find the Earth "under attack from alien warrior drop ships," while the sixth will force Ripley to "turn to the dark side in order to save civilization." No directors or cast have been attached to the as-yet-untitled sequels.

Aliens vs. Predator: Well its official, the sci-fi teamup is going ahead after all with filming scheduled to begin this October in Prague under the helm of Paul W. Anderson ("Resident Evil" ). According to Filmjerk, the story follows "human scientists going on an expedition to Antarctica to lure Predator hunters, using Alien eggs as bait. Of course, these plans quickly goes awry and the humans find themselves in the crossfire between two warring alien species". Casting agents are seeking seven major human characters (NONE from the previous films in either franchise are returning), including a gorgeous female environmental researcher, her hunky Egyptologist ex-beau, a gruff Han Solo-esque American archeologist, the billionaire industrialist financier who hides his terminal disease, the English-accented Afro-Caribbean team leader, a muscle bound beefheaded Texan, and a geeky but smart scientist. Interestingly with the exception of the female lead, the other six roles are to be filled by European actors. No word on how this moving ahead will affect filming plans on "Resident Evil 2".

Aliens vs. Predator: IGN Filmforce has some juicy SPOILER details on the first part of the script for the long-awaited sci-fi teamup. Here's a short summary of what to expect from the film which has been revealed to take place in the present day - "It seems that structures which pre-date the pyramid civilizations of Egypt and the Americas have been discovered far beneath the Antarctic icecap by satellites. So to explore this finding billionaire Weyland assembles a drill team, specialists in Aztec and Egyptian archaeology, and an environmental scientist. Once inside the pyramids, the group discover disturbing remains including piles of human skeletons with holes in the chest (from Alien "chest-bursters" ), and fossilized Alien "face huggers", seems that the temple was either built or infested by Aliens in Earth's distant past. The script pages make no mention of the Predator. It seems that he may show up farther along in the movie. Considering the depth that must be drilled to reach the Aliens, the Predator may be a late arrival who uses the humans' own passage to the temple".

Alien 5: James Cameron mentions Alien 5, and had this to say about "Alien 3" - "Hated it. Simple as that. I hated what they did.... I couldn't stand Alien 3 - how they could just go in there and kill off all these great characters we introduced in aliens, and the correlation between mother and daughter. It stunk, but hopefully I'll get a chance to rectify all that". You mean the talk about him being tied to "Alien 5" is true? "To an extent. yes. We're looking at doing another one. Something similiar to what we did with Aliens. A bunch of great characters, and of course Sigourney. I've even discussed the possibility of putting him [Arnold Schwarzenegger] into the Alien movie".

Yes, Aliens 3 and 4 should be chalked up to one big "hypersleep nightmare" that Ripley had on the way back from LV426.

It should pick up 20 years later, with Newt, Hicks and Ripley (and a re-built Bishop).

Michael Biehn said that he would be on board if they picked up his character, Hicks.

Alien Re-Release Restores Scene

Ridley Scott, director of the 1979 classic SF film Alien, told SCI FI Wire that an upcoming extended version of the movie will restore a never-before-seen three-minute sequence. "The scene really explains what happened to Dallas [Tom Skerrit] and the others," Scott said in an interview.

At the time of Alien's original release, Scott said that he cut the scene to speed the movie's pacing. But upon reflection, Scott said that he is now happy to put it back. "I think it seemed to slow down the dynamics, and now, looking at it, I thought, 'Well, actually, it doesn't.' I think we didn't give it a fair shot then. [Now] I think it works." Fox will release the new cut of Alien in theaters on Oct. 31.

AvP's Lathan Is No Ripley

Sanna Lathan, who co-stars in the upcoming franchise hybrid film Alien vs. Predator, told SCI FI Wire that she plays a strong female action hero, but that her character has little else in common with Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley. "She's the same as Sigourney's Ripley character in that she's very strong and independent, but I think that's probably about it," Lathan said during an interview on the set in Prague. "For one [thing], it's actually not in the future. This movie happens before all of the Alien movies."

In Alien vs. Predator, Latham's character leads a team of explorers to an archaeological dig in Antarctica, where they find themselves caught in the crossfire between two deadly alien races. "She is kind of unique in that she is somebody who loves Antarctica and is very familiar with that territory," Lathan said. "And that's how she makes her living, by being a guide."

Lathan, who was cast a week before the start of principal photography, hadn't previously seen any of the Alien or Predator films. But director Paul Anderson supplied her with the DVDs to watch during her breaks from filming, she said. Lathan added that she was particularly impressed with Weaver's work in the series. "As far as Sigourney goes, it's just an honor to be able to even be talked about in the same sentence," Lathan said. "I've been watching the Aliens since I started shooting, just to kind of like get a background, because I wasn't really prepared. Everything happened so quickly. But it's a completely, completely different character. And so I'm approaching this as completely new and trying to go off the script." Aliens vs. Predator is scheduled to open Aug. 6, 2004.

Hey, any OSX users out there?
I gotta say I was real excited about DVD_ROM content that was actualy viewable on a mac! Most DVDs say the content in unavalible on them (which is kinda funny since most DVDs are authored on macs).
Anyway, I threw it in the old super drive and sure enough there was a document titled alien_OSX. But when I tried to open it Panther didn't know what application to open in with!

So, anybody out there know how to get this thing running?
