Based on the book by Isaac Asimov
Due out in 2004

Plot Outline: In the year 2035 a techno-phobic cop investigates a crime that may have been perpetrated by a robot, which leads to a larger threat to humanity.

I've read it and remember finding it interesting reading. The book is a collection of short stories about robots.

Actually, I believe there's a whole series of books. I believe I heard that the movie would be getting source material from several books in the series.

I've read a ton of Asimov. All his robot stories sort of build on one another - not in a story arc, but more of an idea arc. The basic rules of robots are all the same:
1) A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2)A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Many of his stories deal with humanity's fears of technology/artificial intelligence, prejudice, and wriggling with the three laws. A sci-fi mystery sounds like a perfect venue for Asimov's robots. I look forward to hearing more!
