Scifi and Fantasy Forum: Movies: The Fifth Element
The Fifth ElementWe have moved to new forum software and posting here is closed!
Yes, it did seem a bit derivative, but the one thing that helps it to stand out was its lightness - other than the tongue-in-cheekiness, the colors "on" earth as well as in the ships were much lighter, and the intensity of the illumination was much higher through most of the movie, leaving very few shadows. This is QUITE different from BladeRunner, but it IS just scenery/backdrop.
i like it *shrug*
derivative...? of what...? I liked it a lot, the clothing, the parts, especially Milla Jovovich's parts, a breath of fresh air if you ask me !!!
Well, I have to check it out again -- loads of people that I admire like it and therefore its probably my problem. Its been years and we are all talking about it so there's gotta be something there!
This is the ultimate movie, my all time favorite. The Ultimate DVD released 01/11/05 is a must have for all fans. Luc, you shouldn't make us wait, but the content is worth it. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't really care that much for the movie, I saw it last year. It just wasn't very good in my mind. But I do agree with Master on this. While not the best movie, it did have some pleasing effects and imagery.
I really liked this movie, and I'll probably buy the Ultimate DVD sooner or later, though it's not as high on my list of priorities as Last Samurai, Hero, or the Village.
One thing to remember is that this movie does NOT take itself seriously, so you shouldn't, either. If you require your science fiction serious, then it's not one for you.
