Posted By: gyee Oct 05, 2001 - 02:33 pm | | I liked this film lots but can someone explain the ending to me? Maybe I'll put it together when I watch the dvd out in november. I've also read in another forum that Tim Burton will have commentary on the disk, but haven't seen this in the literature, still looking. Anyone know about this?
The ending I don't know if this is right but here goes... The apes and the humans were fighting... Then the ape arrives in the space craft, he took long to arrive at the future than Tim Burton (can't remember his name in the movie). We find out that the apes come from that crashed space station (or what ever it was) that thing at the begin which had the apes in cages and the ones that were in the cages have take over the planet.. They have evolved and humans have gone the other way.. The humans and the apes stop fighting.. Tim Burton thinks he can get back to his own time so he takes of in the space craft, and goes back though the space-time anomaly , but finds out that know matter which may you go though the thing you go into the future... I mean he has gone more into the future, so now the apes have invented cars, electricity etc.. Tim Burton sees a statue of an ape in stead of a human... Hope that helped...
okay okay, first of al tim burton is not an actor. but that is getting beside ourselves. the whole point of the movie was the idea of multi dimension. Mark walhburg simply arrived into an alternate dimension where the space station he left choose to try and pursue and crash landed. Now once they landed, they released the "human/ape" genetically altered apes to assit them in their every day work as the apes where better suited to the harsh conditions of the planet. Eventually the ancestors of Tim Roth who plays the general revolted, no longer willing to be treated like apes i take it and since the humans no longer had weapons they simply took over the ship. Now without any means of defense the apes became the superior race, not dominant as if i recall they quoted in the movie that the humans were still managing to thrive. Now when the monkey arrived, which by the way is the most ridiculous piece of accidental timing I have yet to witness, the apes appearance testified that the humans and apes at once lived together. and the Can't we all just get along theme started going. Oh Booohoo how touchy..(did i forget to mention he kissed an ape....) Yes...Yes well back to the plot. going back through the spacial anomoly, he enters a brand new dimension leading the way for as many sequels as possible. personal touch they could have done so much more with that movie. pitty realy.

I think he fishes the ship out, goes through the purple cloud and alters Earth's past. The apes take over Earth. That's going to be a cool sequel. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to the DVD on Nov. 20 (and the TV show). There's also some info about it at the website, www.planetoftheapes.com - - - Jeff

But the acting, while good, was not nearly as well done as in the original. Just something about the, for lack of a better word, cornyness or just older cinementography seemed to work better with the setting. It's kind of like the "cornyness" in the way the original Star Wars Trilogy was shot is much better the then cg they use on the new ones. It simply lend itself better to it.
