Scifi and Fantasy Forum: Books and Book Reviews: Terry Brooks
Terry BrooksWe have moved to new forum software and posting here is closed!
Now i know some of you guys have read Terry Brooks! The Sword of Shannara and the Scions of Shannara? A good writer with some classic fantasy elements: elves, dwarves, ect.
Shannara was good, but I liked his Wizard series better. It doesn't take itself quite so seriously, and I found it easier to connect to.
Terry Brooks is my fav author, though most seem not to be able to get into his writing. As it is he still remains my number one along with my other top 10 authors I love. Well just thought id say something.
Just finished The Sword of Shannara folks!! LLOOVVVEEEDDD IIIIITTTTT!!!!! That book's final moments and chapters kept me on my toes. That book is big page-turner. I recommend it to anybody.
I would say that The Elfstones is my fav of the first 3 books. I really like the weapons master. One thing I like about Terry Brooks is that he makes you connect with the characters emotions. I found the sibiling rivalry with the Elf princes interesting. He did a good job of helping you identify with Ander.
I dislike Brooks intently. I don't consider him a good author and I fear he lacks orginality, he even goes as far to have Black Riders in his books... where did he get that? There are some much better high fantasy authors out there, perhaps even Eddings would be better. Okay that was quite harsh... urm Terry Brooks has nice covers to his books.
