I love the Pern series, but it's been three years since I've finished them.

I have read a bunch of them and must say that I really fell in love with some of the dragons... but lets say I wanted to read ONE right now, which one would be the best one for me?

Oh my first post, excellent.

Working in a bookshop is very handy. I can browse through the sci-fi/fantasy section all day and get paid to do so.

Now, I picked up 'Dragonsdawn' a while ago, only having a little knowledge on the Pern series. It was recommended to me as a good introduction, which it was. It was also an enjoyable read and gave me high expectations of the series.

However, 'Dragonflight' disapointed me in the first chapters. Being an earlier book it was written differently (not as well) and this frustrated me so much I was unable to continue. So perhaps while 'Dragonsdawn' is a good history of the planet, it is infact not a good introduction to the series.

There are a lot of books in that series, perhaps it gets better? Am I wrong to judge Pern based on the prequel and the first book?

I've never read any of Anne's stuff. Is she really that good and worth reading? If so, which novel should I start with, and also, which writers could she be compared to?

So far I have read four of her books, and I have not thought much of them...but thats me....

The first two pern books, the first 'Tower and the Hive book, and the first Talent series book...

I thought that in the first Tower and the Hive book called Rowan, it was to easy for them to come up with a solution to their main problem....

So far I have read the first pern book (own the second and need to find time) and the first Acorna book (started the second and lost it ;-; ) and even wrote back and forth to anne on her email (highlight of my life) and I really really love her books. I even read a book just because Anne wrote a comment about the book (like news does except it had an author write one) and it turns out I have another favorite author...
