Diplomacy of Wolves

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, with plenty of sword and sorcery, political intrigue, and a werewolf for heroine.

Excellent

Agreed! Diplomacy of Wolves is probably one of her best works.

Fire in the Mist is also extremely entertaining, but Bones of the Past and Mind of the Magic do not live up to the start of the series.

The only problem I had with Diplomacy of Wolves is that Lisle brought you to the brink of the cliff of disaster and left you there. That's how she ended the book--with the main chars facing certain death or at least extremely undesirable conditions. To me this shows a lack of professionalism--instead of making the sequel so good, or the characters/world so awesome that you simply MUST return to them in the next book, she FORCES you to with sloppy writing (IMHO=in my humble opinion). Because of this I have yet to pick up the sequel to Diplomacy of Wolves (which happens to be Vengeance of Dragons).

In my own defense, I don't like ending books on cliffhangers. I had a different ending, my editor insisted on the cliffhanger ending, and I conceded the point. I'm sorry you found the ending frustrating. I did, too.

Welcome to the forums Holly!

That's an interesting point, and a tragedy for any author. No one should be forced to compromise their work for the sake of getting published. Unfortunately, this probably happens more than the public would ever guess. Someone like Stephen King can probably shove whatever they want in front of an editor and get it published without editing (and I love Stephen King, but IMHO his last few books bear this out). Everyone else is at the publishers mercy.

BTW: I don't think I have a listing for you in the Resource Network....I'd love it if you'd stop by and submit it so everyone can find your site!
