F/SF writer, probably more well known for the fantasy trilogy Deed of Paksenarrion, but pretty much the rest of her work is sf.

Currently reading Winning Colors, the third book in the Serrano Legacy.

Paksenarrion wasn't bad, but I like her sf stuff better. Once a Hero, which actually comes after Winning Colors, is my fav so far.

Does fall into a trap common to many female (and male) writers - all the really important people are female (or male, as the case may be). There are many characters important in terms of the political and social hierarchy of the society, but pretty much all of the people really important to the story are female.

I'm a pretty big fan of Elizabeth Moon, although I came across her completely by accident. I was looking to try some military SF, and just happened to pick up "Hunting Party". It went on from there. I loved the first 3 books of the Serrano legacy, but rather lost patience once we started focusing on Esmay rather than Heris, since she's much less fun. Actually, my favourite character is Brun- impulsive, intelligent, witty, resourceful... all I look for in a female protagonist.

I see what you mean about the main characters being primarily female- you're right, it is rather top heavy. However, being as spunky heroines are my favourite characters to read about, I'm not complaining too much.

I adored the Deed of Paksennarrion, as I'm more at home with fantasy than SF. Plus I liked the religious stuff- Paladins are really interesting. Can there really be such a thing as a genuinely holy warrior?

Hey Baze, has Moon put anything new on the market recently? I've been waiting for her to continue the Deed story, but have given up. I've read some of the science fiction adventures, but haven't seen a new title from her in about 3 years.

Not that I've noticed. She followed up the Deed of Paksenarrion with the Legacy of Gird, and finished the Serrano legacy (her favourite word?), but I certainly haven't noticed anything new. I wonder if she's got a webpage? A new mission for Baze, I think!
