Hey all. I just finished a book called COLA WARS, and I have to say it's some of the best sci-fi I've read in a long time. I had the devil's own time finding the thing, until I realized it was available on all the online booksellers (a friend had recommended it, but wouldn't give me his copy---cheapskate!). If you like super-heroes and enjoy satire, this is THE book! I guess I'm so pumped about it because lately I've been finding a lot of sci-fi I've "outgrown", because it seems so aimed at teenage boys, but this is full-on good stuff, well-written and just plain weird sometimes. About a world dominated by 2 cola companies, a world where there's no clean water to drink so everybody's got to drink one cola or the other, and the cola companies have genetically-designed super-heroes who fight each other for the companies. The main character is this guy named Jack who's a special services operative for one cola company, and, without giving too much away, he starts to figure out just who polluted all the water, and things go kind of nuts as people and super-people try to stop him. Anyway, the author's name is Dennis J Barton, and I got my copy on BN.com, but like I said, it's available at all the other online places I looked, but some have different delivery-delays. If I haven't made it abundantly clear, I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK MOST HIGHLY!

You may now return to your normally scheduled program....

I might add that I was pretty thrilled when I found out the author lives hgere in FL with me. I wonder if I'd seem like a stalker if I went and tried to find him. I don't know how to get ahold of him, but my friend, who met him at a convention in Toronto last year, said he was an alright guy, so maybe he wouldn't be too ditrubed if I gave him a call. Anybody have any thoughts?

Maybe you could try email or snail mail first?

I'll give it a try. Have to say it'll be my first shot at sending any kind of fanmail to anybody. My friend who told me about the book says the writers a regular on some of the Rush (tyhe band) boards), because he wrote some Rush-based sci-fi too, I guess, so I'll go hunt around for him some.

Let you know how it gos.
