Tamora Pierce
Tamora PierceWe have moved to new forum software and posting here is closed!
I stumbled on Tamora Pierce's works when i was trying to find some relief from all of these so-called "epic fantasies" modeled on TLLR where no magic ever happens. In Tamora Pierce's works, all of the charachtars either are learning to work with magic, and there's that excuse for it not being used, or all of them have wonderful control of magic, it's in the palms of their hands, and she vividly describes them using it! her use of violence is a little annoying, and they get repetitive after you've read four or eight of them, but otherwise I'd reccomend them to any fan of fantasy and magic! Does anyone else want to read them and want to know more, or has anyone else read them and can share something?
I thought I was the only one who'd heard of her! She was one of the main influences with my writing -- not only is she easy to read but her ideas of magic are used brilliantly, especially in the Wild Magic series. She's definitely a fresh break from the "heavy guys" like Donaldson.
*lol* Well, she's under a big stigma, since her publisher's label is "children's". Sp people are like, "Well I don't want to go into the children's section of the library to get my books; I want real books!" Ugh.
Yes, I noticed the witchcraft aspects in it -- especially Daine's father
First I read one - think it was called The Magic in the Weaving????? - but I found it a bit boring. I read the Wild magic series then after the insistence of a friend, and I really liked - except the Daine/Numair match was a bit predictable, and he was like 25 years older than her.
THe numair thing pisses me off. I despise him!!and cleon too!! I've read all her books except shatter glass.
The cleon thing was too perdictable!! anyway Cleon is a bumberling idiot!
She started with the Alanna series, and I think she only got better in the Wild Magic series.
Yes! i concur--the stories arent perfect, but they really are a good read =PPP
The Alanna series is a wonderful read and investment! You won't mind reading them over and over, and you will be able to find a lot of people to lend them to. Suitable for children, expect for the sexual liasons of the main character. Infact, that was truly the only problem I could find in the books--the heroine couldn't make up her mind, and kept bed-hopping.
I just started another Tamora pierce thread, and i can't believe I didn't see this one first! The only problem i found with them is how repetitve they get after the first eight books or so; and I love how well she uses magic! There's a few anachronisms, but we don't care about those.
i have only read one of tamora peirce's books and i loved it. it was the first test. does anyone know if that is an actual series or is just a
First test... hmmm Thats the Kel series me thinks... After that is Page, then Squire and the most recent is Lady Knight.
yeah i found the other books and just finished the circle of magic series. they are really good and i want MOORRREEEE!!!!!! hehehe neway thanks 4 the tip on the new book coming out and hope they keep on coming.
I just read Alanna: The First Adventure and I loved it! I'll be finishing the series soon and then starting on some of the others.
There's the circle opens series which I think all but one have come out where the circle peeps teach their own pupils. Haven't heard of another circle series other than that.
I loved the alanna series was good until the second book. i liked jon way better than george and i dont like how jon's personality changed while she was at the bazir.
