Has anyone heard of the fifteen year old boy who has written a book that 'they' say is going to blow Harry Potter out of the water?

Does anyone know the title or the kid's name?

I think I've seen it, if it is the hardback with the Dragon on the front in blue. I read the first two pages before deciding I didn't want to buy it. And it has been out a while, at least 3 months, so if there is going to be an explosion of sales, we should be hearing about them soon.

the 15 y.o. kid's name is christopher paolini and the first book is entitled "Eragon". he is calling it the inheritance trilogy roughly about a 16 y.o. boy with a magic blue stone that hatches a dragon, self discovery and good v. evil kinda stuff. haven't read it yet but it is getting great reviews.

yeah, that's it. a friend of mine just bought it but hasn't started it yet. i don't know. they predicted "The Thief Lord" would outsell Harry Potter and it didn't even come close. i can remember how every fantasy novel that came out was always promoted as "better than Tolkien" or "in a class with Tolkien", etc., and they never really were. i think it's enough just to be a good book. they can't all be instant best-selling classics.

I have read Eragon and plan on reading the rest of the trilogy. I really liked the book and it is now one of my favorites, but I don't see where people would think that it would "blow Harry Potter out of the water." Maybe it is just me, but I thought Harry Potter was better than Eragon.

Ta,
SilverRaven.

DK, Wow, so i may have to read a whole series. Cool. I gotta say that harry is not that easy a read. Atleast not for me. He really blends his scenes together and jumps around seamlessly so i sometimes get lost as to where I am in the world, but the more i read , the more I understand how to read the book.

Eragon is a well crafted tale. Paolini's writing style is spectacular stuff compared to some of the crap that lines the shelves of Borders, Barnes and Noble and Bookmans these days.

He has some creative ideas and excellent explanations of the methods of magic he uses. He also sticks to a classic fantasy setting and uses dwarves, elves and men, without changing their names or giving them any sort of annoying twist. I'm an incredible fan of classic fantasy though, so mildly biased in this area.

Oh, and it doesn't sound like some poor attempt at converting a D&D setting or campaign to novel like a certain pair of writers I know.

I've heard very good things about it. It's one I've been meening to read, but haven't quite gotten around to it. I know several people reading it and hear nothing but good reviews and comments on it.

I've heard terrible things about that book, and few positive reviews, but perhaps someday I'll read it myself to make my own decision.

I want to read it, but not right now. After I finish reading The Dark Tower series, I still have to finish the last three books, I'm going to be in the mood for something other then a fantasy. But I definately want to read it.

Have you read Eragon yet Magus?

I know a lot of people give the book bad reviews because "It has a sluggish plot" or is "short on action" etc. but these reviews are mostly from the Violenceaholic/Actionaholic people, the ones that don't seem to understand or put into perspective the fact that Paolini is a new author and this is his first book, And that he is not trying to write a thriller.

I think he does Great for being his first book, and he is one of my favorite authors. For you who have read the thread on Expendable Characters, I think he flags his "Hit List" characters, I know for me he did.

The only reason Paolini is not my favorite author is because he does what (I think) Lloyd Alexander does, that being, he strives to write "Epicly" and have a story that feels "Big" and Grand. He does not fully suceed in my opinion.
He does a good job, although many easily surpass him.

I believe one thing that shows a book is truly "Great" is how you Think, Feel, Remember a book after you are done reading it.
More even than what you feel when you are actually reading it.

Just compare his work to.. Your own. The fact that the book actually IS a Bestseller says somthing for it.

The movie rights were sold to 20th Century Fox, the movie is suppose to come out late this year (2005) from what I heard last.
