I recently finished Carol Berg's Raikirah series, and I have to recommend them to you all. Carol Berg is a little-known author and her books are a gem in the adventure/fantasy genre. This particular series is about a prince and a slave who find themselves in the middle of a fight against demons. Each book has a different tone in the trilogy -- my personal favorite was the first book, and it can stand alone if you're not up to taking on the whole trilogy.

I'm a very picky reader -- I feel that there is a whole lot more crap out there on the shelves than there are worthwhile reads -- but Carol Berg satiates my hunger for a well written story. She is at least a better than average writer, but I think she has a way of turning a phrase in a clear but concise way without losing meaning. She is also a wonderful storyteller. She effortlessly creates a world where the threat of demons encroaching on the land is believable and theatening. Her writing reminds me much of Lynn Flewelling, another gem of an author.

Has anyone read this series? I doubt it since it is new and not publicized. I would be interested in discussing the third book, but I don't want to risk spoiling it unless anyone else has read it.

She has a new book, something about dragons. That's the only one I have read. I can't find any of her other books.

The new book she has out is part of a new series, and I haven't read it yet because I want to wait till the whole series is finished. I found the rai-kirah series at barnes and noble bookstore.
