POA NEWS!

Here's an announcment from The Leaky Cauldron:

"10 Minute Sneak Peek of POA On ABC TV May 9th

Sunday, May 9th, ABC will air "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" featuring an extended version of the film, including material not included in the original theatrical release. At the conclusion of the broadcast, ABC will then air a ten minute sneak peek of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban".

Also, they have a reporter on set who is doing a GREAT job. The first story she filed was an interview with the teens--David, Rupert, and Emma. The Leaky Cauldron has a lot of admirers now, so it was a really good interview, the actors really seemed to want to talk, and they weren't getting t he pre-digested questions of most interviews. Recommend reading it. Too long to reprint here. There are five reports from the set now, the latest on Honeydukes, the candy shop, which was built into the set used for Diagon Alley.

The new trailer is out as well. It's terrific--shows the dementors, Sirius Black as a dog, a distant view of the hippogriff in flight, more of the Knight Bus. By all accounts, Prizoner of Azkaban is going to be spectacular.

Yes, it is for USA, I believe England already had theirs, and I think I recall that Australia is getting theirs near the end of the month, I could be wrong though.

It's not actually going to be a 10 minute commercial of the PoA film, it will be a behind the scenes kinda thing, or an interview kinda thing with scenes spliced into it, from what I understand. You should be able to find writeups on Leaky Cauldron or Mugglenet I believe. Currently Leaky Cauldron has Trading cards scanned, which are apparently very spoilerish. I've avoided looking at any of them though, as I want to see as little as possible before seeing the film. I've actually only seen the first trailer, and that's enough for me to get an idea of what it'll be like (Along with all the interview stuff I've seen). I'm especially looking forward to seeing Buckbeak and the Dementors, and want the full effect when I see the movie.

Oh, BTW, the Sun (and apparently several other British Tabloids) have started a rumor that, Bloomsbury sent a heads up to all the Publishing houses to make room in their schedules no later than Sept. 8 2004 to print Book 6.

Bloomsbury has denied the rumor, so don't buy into it.

Potter Stars Predict Fates

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, who star in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, made some dark predictions about where their characters would be going in the last two books of the series written J.K. Rowling, Reuters reported. "People are going to hate me for saying this but I've always had the suspicion that Harry might die," Radcliffe said during a press conference to promote the film. "Harry and [his arch-nemesis] Voldemort have got the same core in them, which you see in the fourth book. The only way Voldemort could die is if Harry dies as well."

Grint, who plays Harry's best friend, Ron Weasley, also saw his character taking a turn for the worse. "I'd like him to turn a bit evil," Grint said. "I've always wanted to play an evil person."

The one uplifting prediction came from Emma Watson, who had high hopes for her character, Hermione Granger. "I hope she ends up doing something she loves," she said. "Maybe with Ron if that makes her happy."

How does Dobby apparate in and out of Hogwarts in book 2? How does Voldermort not know Snape is on the good side in book 1 when he corners Professor Quill, and why would he try to get Snape to help him?

Correction Why didn't Voldermort get Snape to help him?

1. Dobby doesn't apparate. He performs magic that transports him from one place to another, but it is a different magic, so "The No apparation in Hogwarts" doesn't affect him, even though what Dobby does looks just like apparation. Same goes with Fawkes.

As to the second question, that's still a mystery, if you believe Snape is spying on Voldemort for the Order.

Ok chaps and chapesses, here's a few questions that bug me somewhat, and what I think may happen in 6 and 7 (They may have already been discussd, I don't know, there's far too many posts to troll through).

Q1 Why does Dumbledore trust Snape so much?

A1 James Potter saved the life of Snape. Snape felt a debt of gratitude to JP So when the Big V killed JP, Snape was obligated to protect(?) HP.

Q2 What will HP do when he finishes school?

A2 I think its obvious he will end up as the defence against the dark arts teacher, however I think he will also get together with Ginny.

Q3 RW and HG are destined to be a couple?

A3 more than likely.

Q4 What will happen to Dumbledore?

A4 The big V is going to nail him.

Q5 What will happen to Hagrid?

A5 see answer 4

Hey MrB! I thought there was a hint that Harry might actually hook up with, of all people, Luna Lovegood. Ginny seems to have moved on, and really has the personality to attract the guys. Harry's never looked at her as a romantic interest. But at the end of OotP, Harry felt pity for Luna, and I think that's a hint of something more to come. I don't think JKR would have spent so much time devoping Luna if she weren't an important character.

Why Dumbledore trusts Snape, and what it is that Snape does for the Order remain a mystery, and I won't hazard a guess at this point. Clearly, Snape is known to Voldemort, because in Sorcerer's Stone, Quirrel/Voldemort were aware of Snape's efforts to thwart Quirrel. So if he is spying, he must be disguising himself in some fashion. I'm very interested to find that out.

Merle and MrB,

Looking at Canon, it won't surprise me if Luna ends up with Harry, there were some pretty clear hints. However, as far as Ginny is concerned, I'm not sure that Ginny has gotten over her feelings for Harry, I think she was playing politics, showing Harry she is not going to wait forever for him, I wasn't convinced she really is going out with (Dean?) now, or if she is that it's very serious. Her feelings have definitely matured, and she's not star struck anymore, but, I find it equally possible that he could end up with Ginny or Luna, neither will surprise me, and the other will probably be with Neville.

Ron and Hermione, I think is a given, since in JKR's recent interview she says she is surprised people are still wondering, and she feels it's pretty clear wether Hermione will be with Harry or Ron. There are subtle things regarding a possible H/H, that the H/H shippers dwell on, but, they are nowhere near as clear as the Ron/Hermione hints.

Harry after he completes school, I think DADA teacher or Auror ["I'll help him become an auror if it's the last thing I do"] both are very possible, if he survives the last book, which I don't think is definite.

Definitely Snape is a mystery if he is truly spying on Voldemort, since he did work against Voldemort when he was riding piggyback on Quirrel, definitely looking forward to seeing the resolution here.

Dumbledore, probably has to die in order for Harry to "Become". Possibly in Book 6, to setup a Book 7 invasion of Hogwarts, which would allow Harry (as Head Boy) to lead the DA along with the Professors defending Hogwarts. Hagrid I feel will survive the series.

Voldemort has known all along that Snape is against him. But just like Prof. Trelawny, Snape is probably safe from Voldemort at Hogwarts. As for the spying, I don't think Snape is spying on Voldemort, but on Voldemorts followers, and he can probably do this in a lot of different ways (disguise, remote observation through some device, working through "moles" that he has planted in Voldemort's group). The real question is, how powerful is Snape? Could he take on Lucius Malfoy or the LeStranges and win? We know he's clever, but we've never actually seen him take on a really powerful opponent. Even his countercurse, used against Quirrell in the first book, was only barely adequate as a dark arts counter measure. He didn't do too well against Sirius in Prisoner of Azkaban, either.

Incidentally I don't think we've seen the last of Sirius Black, the circumstances of his death were just too mysterious for words. I also wonder if JK doesn't have something interesting in store for Neville...

I think Sirius is dead as a doornail, JKR was supposedly very shaken up when she wrote his death. I agree, we will see Sirius in some kinda way (Pensieve, flashback, portrait, time travel, etc), maybe even Harry will venture through the veil, or visit the land of the dead, but, I don't think he'll be back alive in real-time. The Stubby Boardman article is very interesting though, it was brought up by not just Kingsley Shaklebolt, but, also by Arthur Weasley, so there should be something to that

Yea Neville, something big is brewing for him. JKR took his importance up a notch when she made him one of the boys the Prophecy "Might" have been about.

Darned good question Iz, I never thought about the fact that we haven't so far seen Snape flex his magical muscle (Geez that does sound bad doesn't it). You're right, why wasn't he better able to fight off Quirrel's curse on the broom (before Hermione interupted him). He's head of Slytherin house, knew more dark arts when he got to school than most 7th years, etc. Seems to be 3rd in command at Hogwarts (Dumbledore, then McG, then Snape).

I agree that Sirius is dead. Besides the information about JKR's reaction, we were set up for his death. He had become profoundly unhappy and a non-congenial character. He could show up again in a portrait or other device.

Dumbledore may have Snape under his thumb somehow, and part of this could be some kind of control over Snape's magic- whether by Snape agreeing to not use strong magic or by some magical hold by Dumbledore. I also wonder if Snape is deliberately holding back on his power so that Valdemort does not realize what a strong opponent he can be. Although, the same reasoning that we used to determine that Snape was strong would occur to Valdemort or his minions, one would think.

I keep thinking that Snape will prove to be crucial in helping Harry. Maybe because I like Alan Rickman and want him to be a major good guy, but I suspect that Snape will be the calvary at the end.

I don't remember the Stubby Boardman article. Would someone please remind me about it?

I see that the archives for this topic are getting unwieldy.

What do you all think about deleting anything from before 2003? I hesitate to do it, because the past discussions might be interesting or important. Does anyone read the archives from before 2003?

Please give me some feedback, otherwise in a few days those archives will be deleted permanently.

The pruning makes no difference to me.

Stubby Boardman was the singer that the lady said was actually Sirius, and therefore Sirius could not be guilty of the crimes he was sent away for, because she had dinner with him that night. The timing of that also coincides with Regulus leaving the Death Eaters, which is where the twins theories come from, and since Snape was only called Snivellous in the Pensieve scene, Snape also could work into it as being Regulus (Sirius' twin brother).

I'm not sure what I believe about it, but all those pieces will fit in some kinda way.

Thanks, Sindatur! I forgot all of that. I'd better read the books again.
