Alright, I don't see many posts with the names Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman... :) Two very good authors with imagination. Dragonlance is definately one of the best fantasy series' I've ever read. Dragon's of a Lost Star just released is an awesome book that brings the world of Krynn back to life after the second cataclysm. The incorporation of new and creative races with an ever changing story line throughout many books definately makes dragonlance a must read...lol...i sound like an advertisement. Some of the things really make you think, and of course you can't forget the great big very huge dragons...hehe :)
Of course there are over about a hundred books and such...I think that's how much I counted, but they're all by different authors and basically branch off from the main story line.

Suggested Reading order:

*...* - optional

*The Meetings Sextet (series)*
Dragons of Autumn Twilight
Dragons of Winter Night
Dragons of Spring Dawning
Time of the Twins
War of the Twins
Test of the Twins
The Second Generation
Dragons of Summer Flame
*The Chaos War Series, and The Bridges of Times Series*
Dragons of a Fallen Sun
Dragons of a Lost Star
Dragons of a Vanished Moon (not yet released)

Yes, I have been trying to start reading the DL series, but I could never figure out where to start..hehe The first book I ended up reading was Dragons of Summer Flame. Then I think I hit a few from the Meeting Sextet series.

I have ta thank you for the suggested reading order.

I have read the Chronicles Trilogy and the Legends Trilogy also, these were a great read and would likewise highly recommend the Dragonlance books.

I would also suggest the Tales Trilogy of short stories, for anyone wanting to get a good feel for the series.

The best of this series that I've read is the first of the 'Raistlin Chronicles', 'The Soulforge'. Nice prequel and setup of Raistlin's developing bitterness toward fate, in general, and his brother, Caramon, in particular.

'Brothers in Arms', the sequel, is good, though the number of jumps between characters gets a little tedious at points.

Dragonlance is the best series of books I've read so far... it really grabs you and drags you in, doesn't it?

Can anyone reccomend what I should read next? I've read Chronicles and Legends, Second Generation and Summer Flame, and the Tales books two and three (can't get my hands on the first just yet).

Dragons of a Fallen Sun sounds interesting, but I'm reluctant to go past the time of great characters like Tasselhoff and Tanis.

Hope you can help,
-l ammi

I read the first trilogy when it first came out centuries ago, and nearly forgot about it for years. I re-read the trilogy and several of the later sequels when Summer Flame came out in hardback, and I was amazed at how well the books held up against my teenage memories. Good stuff--I dare you to keep your eyes dry during the two key death scenes. Go ahead I dare you, you cold, heartless samanabeeches. Weis/Hickman really captured the spirit of fantasy with these books.

Well there is the Dragonlance Novel Guide here:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/dl/novelguide

Not sure how helpful it is, but looking at it, and think about other things I have read, you could give these ones a go next:

The Raistlin Chronicles (two books)
The story of the early years of Raistlin Majere -- the greatest and most feared mage in the history of Krynn.
The two books are:
The Soulforge
Brothers in Arms

and

Preludes I & II (Two Trilogies)
Adventures of the Companions years before they joined together to fight in The War of the Lance.
The six books are:
Darkness and Light
Kendermore
Brothers Majere
Riverwind the Plainsman
Flint the King
Tanis, The Shadow Years

Note Preludes is older than Raistlin Chronicles and maybe hard to get hold off....good luck....

No I have not read them.....yet

When Tani died I had to re-read the page a few times- how could Weis and Hickman, in their infinite wisdom and glory, kill off my favourite character?!!!
I stopped reading there and didn't forgive them for a whole... 20 minutes. I had to keep reading, but then they killed Tas! Or did they... I was never really sure about that, 'cos it seems Tas is in the next series...

Would love to hear from any fellow Dragonlance fans out there, and if you're not a DL fan I strongly reccomend you become one.

Dragonlance is strongly connected to the pen and paper RPG, Dungeons & Dragons, which I play at school with a group of friends (I'm DM by the way ;) It's a very inspiring game).
If you're interested, start with Dragons of Autumn Twilight (part of the trilogy that started it all. Next is Dragons of Winter Night, then Dragons of Spring Dawning. There are now over 125 books by a total of 72 authors; it's all based in the same world with an amazing cast of characters.)

I want to have my own stories published one day and I really do love fantasy fiction- I'm in a fantasy fiction class as I write now, but the teacher's away today and we've been left to our own devices.
I'm a big fan of David Eddings as well, but Dragonlance really grabbed me (I was a little confused at first, but after a little while I just couldn't put the book down. Seriously- I took it with me everywhere! I've never liked any literature that much before, take me seriously when I say it's good.)

Anyway, if you already ARE a DL fan, I'd like to hear about what you have read, what you reccomend.

Hi - just saw this post! I love DL - I've read legends, chonicles, tales, DoSF, SG, WoS etc. etc. etc. Seems there's not many others around, unless they just haven't noticed this post either, so in that case I recommend you visit the Dragonlance Underground site - I hang out there quite a bit. Everyone at DLU loves DL and also likes a bit of DL satire / parody on the side. Not sure if I'm alowed to put the web address here but you'll find it if you run a search. :)

So what does everyone think is going to happen after the end of Dragons of a Vanished Moon? It certainly opens up a lot of possibilities
