I highly recommend *The MacPherson Criticality* by J.D. Isaacs. Anyone who misses the good old days of science fiction will enjoy this book. Not only is it an exciting tale of war in space, it explores thought-provoking ideas about the future of physics, space travel and military technology. The author is a real-life aerospace engineer who writes knowledgeably about such subjects. She has also drawn on personal knowledge of autism and brain damage to create an ominously credible subplot involving a neurological plague. In addition to all that, Isaacs brings out her characters' emotional side, and, despite being the hard, macho dude that I am, I found myself hoping that the hero and heroine would manage to get together. All in all, a great book. It's ISBN 1-931008-00-0 from D3 Press (www.d3press.com)if anyone's interested. Tom Kane
