Dave Duncan definetly falls into the same popular fantasy genre that many dull others have diluted, but he has done it so well. There is nothing in it that will change your life, and make you name your kids after the characters (LOTR), but you will definetely enjoy them. Swashbuckling, is how I would describe it. The first, The Gilded Chain starts out excellently then sinks to good. I'm not familiar with the 2nd one, but I am reading the third (Sky of Swords) and it is a great read and has some excellent characters. The Blades concept is one that I throuroughly enjoy and how they interact with their wards is interesting to say the least. So my final synopsis is: good books, hampered in some areas but nevertheless are great reads. Go buy one!
PS: I apologize for my poor spelling and grammar. I haven't been in school for a few months now, and after 2 weeks into the summer, all knowledge is washed away :)
