Archive through Nov 18, 2004We have moved to new forum software and posting here is closed!
101 posts and so far nothing read. Tsk tsk tsk...
Which is why I suggest we use the unofficial chatroom for our unofficial club.
Hmmm...
I just went out and got Jurassic Park. I'll start it by either tomarrow or the day after. I only have about 100 pages left in Wolves of the Calla, so I can start it right after I finish.
Oh, I also forgot to add this as well.
Oh, and one more thing, how long do you think that each book should have to be discussed on the topic, for the club's purpoeses anyway; you know, before the next title opens for discussion? I was thinking that one week should be good, maybe two even. I'm not sure so I leave the matter open to discussion. We don't want to wait too long, so as to slow the pace of the reading, but we don't want to make it too short to be able to not reach all of the needed points or to not give enough time to read the next book.
Okay... I'd personally say 2 weeks, since this time of year is always the busiest by far for me. I simply haven't the spare time to spend on zipping through books. Also, at times, I can't even get at my computer, so the extra time would be nice. I was thinking of 10 days, but that would be much more difficult to keep track of. It'd be better in multiples of 7 days, IMO.
O.K. then. If there are no objections then I will change the "due date" to two weeks from now, that would make it the third. I don't want to make it due on the second, though, as it's my dad's birthday.
O.K. This is just to refresh everyone's memories as to the order of books being read and who is in what order to choose them.
I think, Neurolanis, that we'lll start your topic in, oh... say a week? Does that sound good to everyone? I think it'll get the good part of discussion on Jurassic Park out of out system at that time. Of course, the topic will always be open for further input. But I think that it will be good for the pace of reading.
I'm still searching, and have yet to find a copy anywhere. Perhaps I'll have to go to the Vancouver Public Library, though I don't have a card there... *sigh* perhaps I will need to purchase it.
PPPS. Sorry for singling you out, Bmat, but are you in the 'club?'
She said that she was going to read The Minority Report since she had a copy and most likely wouldn't participate in this one, I believe. A lot of others ended up not being able to due to that innitial confusion we had over what to do. I'm sure that there'll be less confusion the more we do this.
Well, can't everyone get a copy of the Uplift Wars? There's ebay, amazon, and used they're cheap. It wouldn't cost much, frankly. But if people can't get ahold of it then maybe we'll pick another book.
I hope it won't come to that.
lol. I've had no problems myself, but I understand. I work at the post office sometimes. I know several reasons for being weary of it. Yet, my only problems through mail were with Columbia House! Never again! Crooks! They sent me a pile of books I didn't ask for so I sent them back and they didn't get them, so they held me accountable for a large price tag. I refused to pay. They eventually got a collections agency harassing us all the time, until my mother gave in and paid it. I was a teen then, but it made me furious. Most of all because my mother paid it!! I owed them nothing. I never, ever ever EVER would have paid them a dime ...
IF we get another book I won't be able to start it until after I finish The Tommyknockers. But it shouldn't take long. I don't rush books, but I should be reading this one for no more then a week, really. It's only 500-odd pages long in Hardcover. I can read that in a week easily.
I'd like to go with the Uplift War, but if people can't find it then there isn't much point.
