Posted By: HiEnergy Jun 17, 1999 - 06:03 am | | Welcome -- Was wondering if anyone has seen this series from the 1970's about a family lost in the Bermuda Triangle and stuck on an island where past / present / future co-exist. Very rare show to find info. about. Another series spun-off from this one in the 1980's called OTHERWORLD. If anyone is also interested, there is a sound-byte found as well as an episode guide. Open for comments if anyone has additional information re: the show or if the series will ever be shown again on television...
I can't believe anyone else remembers this show! One of the stars was the boy from Escape to Witch Mountain, and I think Jarod Martin was in it too. I vaguely remember Otherworld...I didn't know it was a spin off though. The Sci-Fi channel replayed Fantastic Journey before...it was quite a while ago though-- the early days when they didn't have any of their own content and played anything they could get their hands on. Have you had any luck using the major search engines? I'll do a little digging later...now I'm curious as to whether anyone has a site on it!
I do not remember The Fantastic Journey, but, I would assume it was about these doctors taking an amazing journey through space and time. If, it was anything like Escape from Witch Mountain, I would watch it.
I am an a avid fan of The Fantastic Journey, and actually missed the re-runs on the Sci-Fi channel in the UK. I, as a young lass, adored Iake Eisenmann and the ever amusing Roddy MacDowell. Would anyone know if Videos were ever released? I live in London, and cannot find any! It is hard work trying to find other related sites... my friends don't seem to remember this program at all. Sad, but true. Sue xx

I've not come across anyone else who remembers it, including my father, who watched it with me! Unfortunately, I suspect this means it's unlikely to be available on video, especially as it was cancelled in the middle of the series.

Posted By: colin Nov 22, 2001 - 07:40 pm | | Wow...surprised anyone else remembers this show. I remember when it ran on the Sci Fi channel back in the mid 90's. The Clown in the funshouse freaked me out....ewwwwy! Evil Clowns.(as if there was some other kind) I taped most of the episodes...missed the piolet When I unpack from my move I look for them....drop me a line and I'll let you know when I find them. cjbuechler@yahoo.com

What was the kids name...Jeffrey and the older gentleman was Boggs? They had some kind of time device with them and were always in trouble including with the time keepers (My words..Boggs boss').
Nomad, that was Voyagers (early 80's), not Fantastic Journey (mid-late 70's). The time device was called the Omni.
Posted By: TALTRU Nov 25, 2001 - 09:40 pm | | I have all ten episodes of "FANTASTIC JOURNEY" with the commercials edited out. Does anyone have the '80's revisit "OTHERWORLD"?
Posted By: Nomad Nov 27, 2001 - 03:01 pm | | OOOps....boy do I feel dumb. Thanks MAser. Yup..the Omni. LOL
Posted By: Valen Dec 10, 2001 - 05:45 am | | Have the pilot on tape. I remember Martin... he was a musician from the future. Had a "tuning fork" that he could also use as a weapon of a sort. One of the things I remember most was when he was going to destroy a machine that was being "worshipped" as a god. He used the tuning fork by pointing it at the device, at the same time he said: "No more dying in your name!" Has always stuck in my mind.
Posted By: scififan Oct 04, 2002 - 08:40 pm | | Yes I remember these! I found this link for Otherworld: http://www.innermind.com/myguides/guides/otherw.htm but nothing for Fantastic Journey yet. I finally tracked down the Network that ran Otherworld and they told me they had no plans at this time to re-release the episodes for purchase on the general market. Well, let's hope they change their minds :-) If anyone sees that the scifi channel or some other national American channel is broadcasting either series, please let me know. Take care and enjoy!
Posted By: Trearan Nov 16, 2002 - 04:32 pm | | What a pity all of you lot never kept an eye on Sci-Fi Channel throughout the mid to late 1990's. Fanastic Journey shown BBC1 in 1977, repeated 1979. Shown at least 4 times by the Sci-Fi Channel between 1993 and 1996. NEVER released commercially on video in America or here ---- and likely never to be (more's the pity as it still knocks spots off most of today's sci-fi crap that gets made and aired). Just as well some of us managed to video all the episodes when we did. Otherworld: not a spin-off from anything. Just another curtailed failed series made in the mid 1980s and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH Fantastic Journey. Some of you really do get your facts mixed up or else memory playing tricks. This was shown only by some ITV companies circa 1985/6, picked up and shown again by the Sci-Fi Channel at least three times LAST YEAR!!!! I know, because that's when I videoed it all too. Although "okay", it wasn't as good as some of the sci-fi that preceeded it in the late 1970's. Some other gems from my own personal video collection which might set you off reminiscing (presuming you are at least well into your 30's and therefore old enough to remember): The Man from Atlantis (1977/8 on ITV), repeated only once by SKY1 in 1990 featuring Patrick Duffy before his stint in Dallas. But best of all, and well worthy of a repeat was the 1978 TV series version of Logan's Run (which rewrote what you repeatedly see in the often repeated cinema film that preceeded it). I've just been watching my vids of all 14 episodes of this series again, and its so much better than most of the modern sci-fi rubbish we have to put up with on our screens these days. You youngsters rave on about Buffy, Farscape, Sliders, Stargate et al ....but you've seen nothing to compared to the "older" and much superior classics from the 1970s. Its just a pity those idiots in control of the Sci-Fi Channel don't recognise there are some us who remember that there WERE some quality programmes made before the computer and digital revolution made special effects look better but resulted in a mind-numbing boredom and - lets face it - total LACK OF ORIGINALITY creeping into concepts and scripts of the late 1990s and early 21st century garbage. Maybe one day the DVD revolution will finally get round to noticing that sci-fi is still big enough business to seek out some more retro fun from the 1970's. At least the Virgin Group's Network Video label are currently considering releasing the British 1975 made series "Star Maidens" which featured Gareth Thomas (before he went on to make "Children of the Stones" and "Blakes 7" , and which was filmed at Bray Studios inbetween the two series of "Space 1999", reusing many of the props from that legendary series (well, Gerry Anderson's people did work on the design of "Star Maidens" and produced its model work). Want to know more about this series because you're too young to remember? Then try: http://www.animus-web.demon.co.uk/maidens/index.htm# and http://www.dsuper.net/~arkadia/Star_Maidens.htm where you can find out all you want to know.
Posted By: Trearan Nov 16, 2002 - 04:38 pm | | And what's this "can't find any sites on The Fantastic Journey"? Try this, find the Google search engine www.google.co.uk then type into the search box "The Fantastic Journey Roddy". Then spend some time wading through all the results which will even give you the opening credits sequence to view, the music to listen to, etc.

A scientific expedition in the Atlantic Ocean headed by Dr Paul Jordan becomes lost in the Bermuda Triangle and washes up on an uncharted island. In the pilot episode they meet Varian, a man from the 23rd century who tells them about a place to the East called Evailand where they can find a door way back to there own time. Most of the group either died or made it home leaving Varian, Fred Walters and Paul's 13 yr. old son Scott to make there way east. Along the way they meet up with travelers from other times, planets and dimensions who have also become trapped. Liana, a woman with an alien mother and an Atlantium father with her cat Sil-l, is the first to join them. Then Jonathan Willoway, a scientist from the 60s is invited to join. Together they travel through portals from one dimension to the next hoping to find the one that leads home. I remember that the pilot pretty well and it seems that they wacked a lot of the original cast members prior to arriving at Atlantium (namely Scott's parents and the other folks from the boat). In Atlantium, Gary Collins and his blonde aide told Scott and the gang that everyone else has passed on to the next level or something like that. Personally, I think they killed everyone else, including his family. Scott, Fred, and Varian were the only ones to continue into the regular series, having gone through lots of script changes (and adding Liana and Willoway along the way). They canned the show just as they were settling into their roles. Darn shame too, because I found that Roddy McDowall added a lot to the show. My most hated line from the pilot was when the boat party found themselves stuck on a deserted island and found some clues to a lost civilization. One of the dumb blondes uttered, "Atlantis, here we come!" I think I would have been more concerned about where I was and where my next meal was coming from. I suppose that's one reason she never made it to the regular series. Of course, shows about Atlantis were HUGE in those days. LOL
Posted By: Erik Jun 14, 2004 - 08:05 pm | | When I was 6 years old, The Source was the creepiest thing I'd ever seen on TV. I didn't know it was a brain, it was enough that it was squishy and ALIVE. Much like a lava lamp. Then, its pop-up red light zapper tools were in my imagination whenever I rolled down a hill, just like that guy who tries to run away from The Source and gets zapped. The teaser for this episode that played over and over during "Flintstones" and "Lost in Space", with the guy getting zapped by the red light, was as good as an actual show just for that scene. I didn't remember any of the stories from this series, just some visuals. The impression of a really cool space city where people feared The Source. The people running into and out of the cement pipe in "Children of the Gods". I thought that was the same city... and kept watching for red zappers! Also, the rotating tube from "Funhouse" was all I remembered from that episode, which I think I saw on a Saturday morning re-run. The fire pit from "An Act of Love" stuck in my memory, mixed up with a Sleestack cave. That's what matters to a six year old. Way too young to see "Jason and the Argonauts", certainly too young to notice Katie Saylor or Christina Hart, and too small to stay awake through "Star Wars" at the drive-in theatre, even though I could spell "Stratastation" no problem. Reduced to just a few images, "Fantastic Journey" remained the all-time coolest show. So I was greatly amazed when one Friday night in 1985, watching a re-run of "Battle Beyond The Stars", I told my friend about this cool show, and wham! there it was on next. I don't know how many episodes they played, but I became rather bitter that there was No Source in any of them! Just that darn cement tunnel, finally, which ought to have led to it but didn't. I gave up somewhere in the middle of that episode. I think they were playing them out of order. Only now do I appreciate that John Saxon, the villain Sador in "Battle Beyond the Stars" was in this series as Consul Tarant. May you be so lucky as to dream about puffy red life-sources kept in jars tonight...
