Posted By: Nomad Jun 06, 2002 - 07:44 am | | In this explosive Season Four premiere, Crichton's lonely existence on an ancient Leviathan is shattered when mercenaries storm the ship, intent on harvesting its flesh. Friday, June 7, at 10PM & 12AM ET/PT.
Posted By: ZimNova Jun 07, 2002 - 09:44 am | | Woo Hoo...New Season! Are you as excited as I am? Maybe we'll even get 10 or 12 new episodes in a row? The most interesting thing is the changes they have made. I avoid most spoilers like the plague so I can only guess what they will be. Is Scorpius really dead along with Lt. Braca? Ben's wife Fran Buller will return...but as M'Lee (Bone to be Wild) or Raxil (Scratch 'n' Sniff)? Both characters are still alive. Mele-on Grayza is still out there and no doubt still pissed off at Crichton for sticking a gun in her face. Will she replace Scorpy as Crichton's main antagonist? Can peace really be made with the Scarrans and if not how strong is the new PK, Luxan alliance? Will the Nebari join the fray with a *Standard Host Vessel*? Speaking of the Nebari, will Chiana hook up with Nerri again? There is so much more that is possible. Where's Stark? How about Jool, will she remain aboard Moya? Crais is ??? Worm holes will ??? One thing in certain. We are getting a new character tonight: Sikozu (played by Raelee Hill who has had some work on shows made in Oz like *The Lost World* & *Beastmaster* as well as 5 feature films.) I believe she is being added to the cast as a regular member. It will be interesting to see who is listed, or not listed, in the opening credits. Note: TV Guide Online says to watch out for a subtle change in Ben's opening monologue. ZimNova
WHAT! No comments on the ep yet? People must be sleeping I hate to say it, but I was disappointed. We joined the show with John already "rescued" (so much for the cliff hanger) and Chi and Buckwheat just show up out of nowhere. No side stories...no "regathering of the crew"...just "boom" here were are. Not impressed, and very unhappy that FS let me down with this kind of shortcut taking. Beyond that the ep itself was OK, but I hope John's return to "crazy John" doesn't last too long because it gets annoying. I don't think Chi's expanded powers were explained too well, so I hope they pick that up again. The main thing I didn't like about this new girl (new regular?) was the whole "I need to hear your language" thing. Very poorly pulled off since English was pouring out of her mouth right away and she sure seemed to understand John quickly. She may be interesting if added to the crew, but IMHO her appearance is too similar to Jool (maybe its just the hair). Hmmm...not a great review for a show I love, but again, I think they really let me down with the cliffhanger.
Posted By: Nomad Jun 08, 2002 - 08:58 pm | | Sorry, was exhausted and actually fell asleep 1/2 hour into it, but from what I saw, I may very well complain also. Ummmmm... What about SG1.. Recoreded that too. well. see..havent watched it yet.
Posted By: ZimNova Jun 08, 2002 - 09:34 pm | | Warning This post contains some minor spoilers for the next 5 episodes! Well Master, from what I understand from reading stuff from aroung the 'net, DK (ex. pro. & story writer of CK) did not intend for *CK* to be the S-4 premiere. That's why it starts with the "Some Time Later" text disclaimer before the credits. This is not the first time this has happened. Remember *Mind the Baby* (2.02) replaced *Dream a Little Dream* (shot as 2.01 but aired as 2.08) as the S-2 premiere which totally frelled the story arc as it made no sense what-so-ever in resolving the S-1 ending cliff-hanger. Seems TPTB at Henson had their own reasons for this change. Small point; I never really got into SG-SG1. There was nothing in last night's ep. to change my mind but I hope it brought in fans of that show to try watching Farscape. Master, I have to say. Crichton was not *saved* in as much as he had the good sense to head back to the Leviathan sacred burial place to try to survive being abandoned after everyone else spilt their seperate ways. Lucky him he was able to find that dying Leviathan. I was wondering how the writers were going to get around the problem of the limited fuel and air the Farscape 1 would have onboard. I thought those scenes of him "going native" were cool, like in *Jeremiah Crichton*. John left alone to himself has always played back to his Human roots, in this case programming the DRD's to play the 1812 overture. LOL As to Sikozu. I liked her character. This episode was geared towards introducing her character into the story arc. There are many signs that Tammy's character *Jool* is doomed. I really think this is a mistake. I as well as many others think that Jool has earned her place in Farscape. I don't write the show so I can only hope that Jool dies with honor or better yet at least finds her way back to her home world as part of the story. Also it seems we will not be seeing Aeryn until the 5th episode of this season. The *How & Why* of that is still, thank goodness, a mystery! From the opening credits we see that Lani (Crais, but he still does the voice of Pilot) is no longer listed, nor is Paul Goddard (Stark). We know what became of Crais & Talyn but Stark was just off to find the spirit of Zhann...will we ever see what happened to him? Another point is the *Old Woman* (Melissa Jaffer) is now listed in the photo gallery at the SFC's Farscape web site along with the regular cast members for this season. More later after I review my tape. ZimNova
I too, must admit I was disappointed with the Season opener! After the (so called) cliffhanger that ended S3, this opens with "Some Time Later..." What in the hell? What a letdown. I agree with the Master, too, how odd it was just to have Chi and Rygel show up...how did they know where John was...hmpt! Chi's mutated "power", was IMHO kind of lame. I guess if this wasn't meant to be the Season opener, then it would explain the disappointment I felt when the episode was over. Why do they do this, I wonder? Same thing when John and D'argo were miraclously rescued by Aeryn after blowing up Scorpy's base. Are TPTB trying to squeeze each and every penny out of FS by these kind of decisions? I don't like it... **** I have been a Stargate SG-1 fan since it started...well since I saw the original flick..so I enjoyed it. I love all things ancient Egyptian so that probably explains the appeal for me. I must say, I do prefer watching it on Showtime, tho, I got used to watching it straight through without all of the commercials. The eps. on Showtime run 45 minutes, so now there are a full 15 minutes of commercial interruptions on SFC. **Sigh** I also will greatly miss the character of Daniel Jackson. I loved O'Neil's remark when he was asked about a Russian officer joining SG-1: "Over my dead, rotting corpse. Oh, did I say that outloud." LOL - right to the point. Oh well, I shouldn't complain I guess. At least we have some **NEW** episodes when everything else is in re-runs.
Posted By: Bmat Jun 09, 2002 - 02:05 pm | | As usual I was annoyed by the Crazed Chrichton act- although left alone in uncertain circumstances maybe anyone would be crazed. How long was "some time later"? He had time to grow a beard. And I wondered too why he decided to shave it. I liked Jool, but maybe she was too similar to Chiana. The new gal on the block at least has a different personality.
Posted By: Nomad Jun 10, 2002 - 06:43 am | | BMAT, lets remembr that Chrighton is now re-hashing all those formulas on Workhole technologyl. I would think that woul make anyone Brain Dead after a while. Crazy? Nah... He was cratinmg Formulistic art and listened to the 1812 to have fun with it. After re-watching the ep again, I warmed up to it a bit. I looked at it as a standalone ep and that , in itself, helped. In fact I caught a lot more nuances of Chrightons personality. Cool. I got a laugh out of the part where Rygel came up and farted after seeing the Hound. The funny part was hearing the hounds growl change from a low growl to a higher pitched one. LMAO
Posted By: fanuilh Jun 10, 2002 - 06:44 am | | Master, it didn't strike me as strange that English was pouring out of her mouth, since we hear what John hears and the translator microbes worked on him. Maybe her species absorbs languages very quickly when heard, sort of like the translators on Star Trek. And that's why the translator microbes don't work on her species. I dunno. I'm guessing. I didn't mind the episode, I didn't think it was so bad. Lots of unanswered questions but that's par for the course. Somebody behind the scenes at Farscape must really like curly red hair, eh? I'm going to miss Jool if she's really gone. She grew on me. I'm not going to miss Stark, though.
Posted By: Nomad Jun 10, 2002 - 07:54 am | | One other thing they are still doing that , imho, appeases the diehard romaticists in the series. They have Chrighton sharing the unborn child with Aeryn withing the complex mind of Chrighton. What a hoot having Scorpious on the beacj with the sun hat. LOL "Better satidfy yourself...." Sys scorpy. I guess he thinks that Chrighton has Aeryn on the brain too much , eh?
Posted By: Iznardi Jun 10, 2002 - 09:45 am | | Crichton as one of the brothers Karamatzov, complete with 1812 overture, peasant shirt, and beard was pretty funny. Scorpy doesn't seem to like beaches or amusement parks. I'd like to see a few episodes that are less manic. All the white noise gets to me after a while.
Posted By: ZimNova Jun 10, 2002 - 06:31 pm | | CK...Part One. Like that Talking Heads song go's; "It's got it's good points, it's got it's bad points, but it all works out, whoa, freak out". I loved how Crichton, hittin' the joy juice from his homemade still, just stands there nonchalantly as Sikozu crashes her ship into Elack. He's like; "What's sup with this? Ship with the bad landing, wipes out my still, Man there is nothin' fazes me anymore. 'Chick gets out, gets in my face...I have got to stop pointing guns at people'". Also kudo's to the set dressers who made the ship's Pilot look 350 cycles old as well as the voice actor. CGI question...What software program does Andromeda use? It sucks. All the spaceships on Farscape and Enterprise look so much better. This episode is kinda like the film *Memento*. You have to watch it at least 3 times to catch everything 'cause live it's moving way to fast and my poor brain can't associate that fast anymore. Master I agree with Fanuilh about the language question. They are not having a conversation at first but talking past each other. OMG...what a great beach!!! Woo Hoo, I had to rewatch that part 5 times because the scenery was outstanding . (I hope Ben don't call those 3 foot shore break waves *surf*) Now as to the whole *shipper* thing in this ep. Waste of time IMHO. (Ok, Ok, there is a huge vocal fan base on the SFC's official BB that want's that relationship). John, get over it! I thought he was better off with Jenovia on the Royal Planet. That was a woman unencumbered by the freight train of emotional baggage that Aeryn brings to the party. New one ep. bad guys, Grudeks...that'll work. Think about it for a microt. How tough is it for any production staff to think up NEW bad guys after all that we have seen over that last 30 years? One thing that still sets Farscape apart from the rest is they stay original for the most part. Got to say the Brindz Hound was sort of lame. Oh, like *Alien* we never get a good at it but still, at the speed it was moving both Crichton & Sikozu should have been Brindz chow. Wait......Pt.2 later
Posted By: Nomad Jun 11, 2002 - 07:55 am | | Looked to me like the hound straight from the gates of Hades. I kinda liked it, myself. So, like I said, the producers are keeping the relationship as well as pregnancy and others stuff alive in Chrightons head where they actually do not need to move the story line or change or anything. Its in his head. Cant everybody change their center of gravity? I kinda liked the fact that she can re-integrate her limb. She said her body is less "big"? For a mionute there I thought she was talking about Chrightons male extension and not the veign in his leg. Both? LOL Zim, your right...you REALLY have to watch this multiple times to catch all the nuances. I think the writers did a good job , for the most part. The perverbial giving up of Aeryn on the beach. Chrighton created another Male figure to keep her company in his head so he can let go. I guess Chrighto also still has doubts as to Aeryns and Craises relationship. ""A baby with a ponytail and Gote'(sp?)" LOL
Posted By: Nomad Jun 11, 2002 - 07:57 am | | Oh yeah, one more thing... MOFO ! I use that ALL the time. He stole it from me!
Posted By: Iznardi Jun 11, 2002 - 08:19 am | | It doesn't really look like anyone from Moya can go very far now because of their infamy. I mean, they've blown up a gamma base, a depository, a Scarran warship, and now a PeaceKeeper command ship. I know in my neck of the woods things like that tend to attract attention.
Posted By: ZimNova Jun 11, 2002 - 01:22 pm | | CK... Part Two. Hold the phone...I just noticed, how I missed it escapes me as I'm on the third viewing, this season is being aired in the LBX format just like B-5 & Enterprise! I must be so used to seeing LBX that it seemed natural? Iz that's right. John and co. are getting like Jessie James with the huge price on their heads, dead or alive. That should make their travels all the more interesting and gain them new allies as the PK are not well loved in the UT's. Uh, Sparky is sportin' some wiskers too! Poor Chiana. Looks like she got beat up pretty bad. I for one am glad to see her character do something more on the show than play the tralk for a change. She also always has to be the alpha-female. I hope the writers tone that down a bit because first with Jool and now Sikozu she is always fighting which will get old. Anybody know what John meant by; "Severed heads, severed hands, it's a motif"? I don't get that one. Glich. Sure John shaved...but who cut his hair? Rygel cracked me up, speaking of Chi's willingness to use her power with; "What the yotz? She gets more blind from drinking reslak". Or when Crichton was falling; "I gotcha, I gotcha...Well I tried". Outside of how Chi's evolved powers worked in this episode one can only wonder where the writers are going with that thread. One thing is she can now use her ability on demand whereas before it just happened usually when either she or someone she cares for was in danger. Odds and Ends. We know from the teaser that we will see Jool in at least one more episode and as next week is *part one* me hopes more than that. The dying Pilot at the end gave John some good advice; "No dream is ever guaranteed commander". Hear Hear. ZimNova
Iz - "I know in my neck of the woods things like that tend to attract attention." I hope the ant episode in the gym is now forgotten...
Posted By: Iznardi Jun 12, 2002 - 04:55 am | | I don't have time to go to the gym anymore.
Posted By: ZimNova Jun 12, 2002 - 05:50 pm | | Just thought I'd add what someone who gets paid to watch TV thought about *Crichton Kicks*
Quote:Tonight’s FARSCAPE season premiere shows once again why the series has often been called the best SCIFI show on TV. Last season ended with Moya’s crew members sattered to the solar winds. FARSCAPE’s producers were unsure of the show’s fate, so in case there weren’t any further episodes, they wanted to give the story of life in the Uncharted Territories a meaningful stopping point. It was a wise, if conservative, notion; but it left many fans wondering if the complete absolution of the crew could be reasonably reversed. Could the writers really think of a way to put everyone back in the same room without making it seem too convenient or contrived? It seemed doubtful. Well, those doubts can now be erased. Tonight’s episode, entitled “Crichton Kicks,” is a perfect follow up to last season’s finale. It doesn’t feel the need to develop events too quickly. We don’t see the whole cast pushed back together in one hour; instead, it seems, members of the Moya crew will be slowly, organically reunited over a period of weeks. This episode opens with Crichton alone on a derelict and dying Leviathan parked in the traditional leviathan graveyard space. Some time has passed since last season’s finale, and the lonely Crichton has, ala CASTAWAY, grown an unruly beard and taken to talking with inanimate objects. Ben Browder turns in a fabulous performance as the half-crazed spaceman, playing up the edgy insanity of the role. While working on the solutions to wormhole technology, having filled a cargo bay’s walls full of crudely drawn equations, Crichton is nearly killed when a shuttle cashes into the Leviathan’s hull. The shuttle’s pilot, named Sikozu Svala Shanti Sugaysi Shanu (try saying that three times fast), is attempting to escape from a horde of pirates. The pirates seek the leviathan’s ancestral homeland so that they can extract valuable wetware from the dying ships by basically gutting them alive. Crichton must defend his leviathan in an all out effort, without knowing whether he can completely trust the newcomer. Rygel and Chiana also return, looking for a hide-out. The reunited threesome cook up a plan to defeat the pirates that will ultimately take them out of the region and set them on the path to finding the rest of their friends. Without giving away the several unpredictable twists, it’s safe to say that few shows achieve the kind of intelligent action, heady amosphere and complete otherworldliness of FARSCAPE as typified by tonight’s episode. If you have to nit-pick you could find a few problems. For example, Sikozu, who seems to be a new regular intended to replace Jool, is so similar to Jool in both appearance and attitude that it hardly seems worth the while to make the change. Also, Sikozu is a member of a race that has the biological capability of changing their center of gravity. She uses this power to climb walls like Spider-Man and stick to the ceiling when needed. Now, I’m no scientist, but I’m pretty sure that no matter where the center of gravity is in your body, you still have to have said body part planted firmly on the ground. But those are just minor character problems which don’t significantly interfere with an otherwise splendid episode. It looks like we could be at the beginning of a very promising season.
Thanks to Cinescape for the review. Master, I cut this article without permission. if that is a problem please feel free to delete it and call me a bad, bad boy. ZimNova
Posted By: Nomad Jun 13, 2002 - 04:29 am | | So I guess that means that we will not go back to the point that Moya Starburst away from John???!!!
Posted By: fanuilh Jun 13, 2002 - 05:07 am | | Moya didn't starburst, did she? Looked more like a wormhole opened up and swallowed her as Pilot was yelling they were being boarded. Maybe we'll get more on that later....
Posted By: Iznardi Jun 13, 2002 - 08:18 am | | I think we are pretty much right were the finale left us, near the Leviathan burying ground. Spanky and Chiana apparently only got as far as the nearest commerce planet and then came back. Dargo and Aeryn can't be that far away, since their ships can't starburst. And once the old leviathan dies, Crichton and crew will be stranded wherever she leaves them.
Thought someone else would provide the answer to Zim's query about the 'Severed heads/hands motif' crack. I suspect Crichton was referring to Rygel's delight in taking the head of his old tormentor (sorry I can't quote the Chapter and Verse, but in the story-arc involving the taking of the Depository, when he advises the mercenaries that they need to be more professional or share that fate.) Rygel was rather proud of himself, and we were treated to seeing him carry that head around for rather awhile. Perhaps?
Posted By: ZimNova Jul 09, 2002 - 06:49 pm | | Asp. Frelling Right! Rygel carried the head of Darka around as a trophy, head on a stick. That's the reference John was refering to with Sikozu's hand. Thanks.
