Archer spends a fretful night in sickbay with Dr. Phlox after Porthos, Archer's pet beagle, picks up a deadly virus on an alien planet. Meanwhile, crew members believe Archer's increased stress level is due to Porthos' illness, but Dr. Phlox suspects it has to do with Archer's repressed sexual tension and urges Archer to discuss it with T'Pol.

Another episode shown out of production sequence?

Well, all I can say at this time is that this is a story about Mans best friend and sexual tension. Course I don't get tired of looking at T'Pols bare back.
Wasn't that just a silly apology, or what?

I guess this was a good character building ep. Especially between Phlox and Archer. A beagle with a camelions petuitary gland. Wonder if thiat will come back to bite them later?

I hope it was filmed out of sequence (like before last week's episode). Last week's episode provided me some hope. Dr. Phlox shoulda just directed Archer to the nearest X flick and provided instructions on self gratification, or told Archer how badly he needs a visit to Risa. This is the kinda episode that needs to be a back story to a major Arc building story line, IMHO. I Really, really wanna grasp onto Enterprise 'cause it's really all we've got, but how can the front running Scifi Series lower itself to providing this as the important part of the story?? (OK, if Archer gets so sexually frustrated he starts a relationship {willing or otherwise} with someone they meet in the next few weeks, I'll accept it as part of the story. But I'm not holding my breath.

God, I hate JMS, 6 years ago I woulda thought, space on a weekly tv series, "cool, give me some"

IMHO this was a budget saver stock episode and that's about it. It was kinda fun spending a night with the Doc since he only sleeps once in a blue moon though. I got a nice giggle when Hoshi caught the bat like it was no big deal too.

Maybe an odd complaint...I didn't think Archer acted very affectionate towards Portos. Phlox tells him he can pet Portos if he wants, and instead he stands around gabbing for a while before giving a quick scratch. If my dog was at death's door I would have had my hands in that box right away. I don't know, it just seems like he didn't make much effort to comfort his pet to me and instead he's fantasizing about T'Pol which doesn't jive with someone being emotionally upset about the health of a loved one.

Gotta say it...THAT TONGUE! Now I know why that Ensign was attracted to the good Doc ;)

Oh, dear. Well, shoot. I suppose it's too much to ask that all the episodes at least make some sense, but this was just... well, it was dumb.

And Archer wins the award for The Biggest Buffoon in the Known Universe. He's going to meet with an alien species they've met before, knows they're easily offended and prickly, and... he takes his dog along. Assuming that these holier-than-thou people will of course examine the DNA info closely and say, "Oh, goodness, look at this, it's not sentient, it's... a dog! Maybe we should warn these poor people that the dog might pick up something...." They don't care. They are not nice people. Archer still hasn't glommed onto this?

Why does he have the dog with him at all? I understand Porthos is his "buddy" (although he's remarkably undemonstrative, doesn't touch him while he's in the box, doesn't sit next to the box at all, I wouldn't have been on a bed in sick bay, I'd have been in a chair or on the floor right next to the box, assuming I couldn't find a way to be inside the box myself). But space travel is inherently dangerous. What if there's a crisis, will he have to choose between his crew and running to his quarters to save the dog? What if the gravity fails, and the dog is floating bewildered until the gravity comes back and *splat*? Or *crunch*. I'd have left the dog at home, on Earth, where he was at least safe. There's a reason sailors aren't allowed to take pets with them on cruises. Do you want your crew worried about Fluffy or Fido during an emergency, or in combat? Sheez. Archer isn't nearly as concerned about the dog as he is about himself.

So he has the hots for T'Pol. Oy vey, like it's never happened to him before, he can't handle it? He knows it's inappropriate, so does T'Pol and she's been aware of his "problem" for quite awhile, judging from her comments at the end, so deal with it. This guy's a starship captain? Maybe he did get the job 'cause his dad designed the ship. He doesn't seem overendowed with leadership ability, so far. I like Scott Bakula, but Archer's beginning to annoy me.

Good thing the aliens didn't have some other traditions they weren't aware of, besides sacred trees. Like.... "Oh, Captain Archer, how kind of you to observe our time-honored tradition of the guest bringing the first course for the banquet." Is Porthos neutered? Seems likely, since he won't be getting any "relief" either. And if not, it's a good thing he didn't hump the prime minister's leg rather than just pee on a tree. Ya think they'd have blasted the Enterprise out of orbit and had done with it for that one?

Archer is lousy at catching bats. Could he have been more uncoordinated? Hoshi was great, though. A one-handed snag and, "What are they doing to you?" directed to the bat.

Dr. Phlox had the best line, when he told Archer that Porthos might be hard to find, being able to blend into the background now. Archer asks if he's kidding. He says. "Yes, I am. Ha." And what a weird little smile at Archer as he was leaving.

If Phlox feeds his toenail clippings to whatever critter was in the cage, does he feed his tongue scrapings to something else?

And where does Porthos poop? Does he have litter box? Is he trained to use the toilet? Do any of the crewmen have to do poop-scooping details? Is he allowed to "mark" any territory?

Inquiring minds want to know.

LoL Fan! I guess you had a litte grumbling t o do. I took the whole ep with a grain of salt. It was more about the Doc and Archer Bonding and his lustful thoughts. hehe

For those desperate for good science fiction. A&E's recent version of The Lost World (something like the sixth to have come out in the past four years) was actually the best of the lot, with a good cast and a good story-line. It repeats this week if you missed it.

I still haven't been able to locate Enterprise on my local station. Have not seen any of the episodes this year.
