Londo and G'Kar
Londo and G'KarWe have moved to new forum software and posting here is closed!
It has been suggested that Londo and G'Kar were the central characters of the series. Their stories, their development.
Yes and no. Just about everyone in the series was a central character, but, there is an awful lot of Canon written from Londo's Viewpoint (Centauri Prime Trilogy, Opening credits of at least one season, In the Beginning, Londo/G'Kar death scene). And of course Londo and G'Kar's destinies are joined at the hip, so if Londo is, G'Kar is. I think Sheridan/Sinclair and Delenn were just as central though.
I agree with this. And this is one of the reasons why I think that Bab5 left network TV for cable - there was no "true" MC. Instead, there were 4 or 5 Captain Kirks on the show, and it's tougher to advertise for this, when the ad execs are used to either an "ensemble" cast (aka Friends cast) or a cast with only ONE MC surrounded by minor characters, as is the usual situation. BAB5 lands inbetween these, in that the cast is not ALL stars, but there ARE more than one, so I think it left execs floating.
Good point Alden. Even Londo's description of the dawn of the new age surrounded the B5 characters. All iof them, but mostly Delenn, Sheridan
If Londo and G'Kar are the central figures, then this would possibily take place in the last year of their lives? If I am remembering the trilogy correctly, that is when G'Kar went to Centauri Prime and stayed as Londo's guest.
Might be more correct to say that the Centauri/Narn conflict is the central drama of the series. It was this conflict that the Shadows exploited, this conflict that Kosh said was dooming both species, and this conflict which continues even after the defeat of the Shadows when the Narn counterattack Centauri Prime, thus paving the way for the Drakh to take control. And it is only with the death of G'Kar and Londo that the era of conflict finally ends, and the true "new age" begins under Emperor Vir. So yeah, I would say the two characters are central, and that their conflict is the thread that ties together a very complex story.
Iz, are you suggesting that the story would focus on the conflict that occured during B5's run? If not then that would mean the series is set 20 years in the future?
Hi PC, one of us seems to be going down the track. I (and I believe everyone else responding to Bmat's original post about Central Characters) was talking about B5 proper that has already ended it's run.
The original series.
