I was just wandering did anyone see Band of Brothers, a 10-part series based on WWII. It was based on Easy Company, a company of the 101st Airborne Division.

I just now saw the series(it came on the History Channel), and I just found out that it was on HBO a while ago.

I really enjoyed it.

Yes. It was VERY well done, as it should have been. I mean, if Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg both put their names on a project...
It's one of the next dvd sets (along with B5, of course!) that I'm going to purchase.

I loved the episodes where they had to hold the line in the forests of Bastogne. They sat there with no food, little ammo, and no clothes for the winter.

I can barely shovel my walkway, in full winter gear, without complaining!

We have such a difficult life now. I often wonder if we could function and remain living in survival situations... Most of us don't know how to light a fire without a handy cigarette lighter or matches.
I am not that ignorant, but it DOES take me awhile to accomplish what a more experienced person could do in a short period.
One note, though. Although WE would function poorly in the stresses of ancient life, how do you think THEY would function trying to hold up under our stresses? Poorly, is my thought.

Jody, look for a series of books by Donald R. Burgett, the first of which is Currahee! A Screaming Eagle in Normandy. Burgett was a PFC in the 101st, and his first hand accounts are spellbinding.

And one of my favorite quotes from the heroes of WWII is, "Nuts!" The 101st at Bastogne were heroes along the lines of the 20th Maine at Little Round Top.

Band of Brothers is also a book by Stephen E. Ambrose. However, while it's good, his best book is 'Citizen Soldiers'. It tells about the entire war from D-Day on.
Oh, and about lighting fires. Well, ya see, they couldn't have fires up there because fires make for one hell of a target for -88 spotters so that would be a great way to get a few shells on your head.
Whenever they were surrounded the guns would freeze solid. Well, how they got them working quickly again, was they'd piss on 'em. Good story.

I've been watching this series on DVD, renting one disc at a time. So far, I've seen three discs out of -- what is it -- eleven?

Yes, the Battle of Bastogne was grim, and there's so much more to come. I just keep wondering if I'll find out whether Renee, the nurse, died in that building where the soldier found her scarf, or if she just lost the scarf while running for safety.

Don't tell me, anybody! I want to find out in due time.
