Posted By: Jareth Jun 26, 2002 - 09:50 am | | As a loyal B7 fan I was wondering if anyone can either confirm or deny the possible return of the series. Also the involvement of Paul Darrow. Cheers.
Posted By: Sindatur Jun 26, 2002 - 11:17 am | | Hi Jareth, Rumors have circulated about that for some years now, don't know if their's any truth to them. I've also heard that there was a book written (Not neccessarily official to the franchise) that picked up exactly where the series left off showing how guilty Avon was (circumstances etc) and continued from there. I also don't know if that book was truth or just rumor. Anyone from the UK have any comments?
Posted By: Bmat Jun 26, 2002 - 12:00 pm | | Avon: A Terrible Aspect (Terry Nation's Blake'S, No. 7) I looked in Amazon.com. Reader reviews either were very high or very low with the average of three stars.
Posted By: Sindatur Jun 26, 2002 - 06:35 pm | | It's by Terry Nation? It's gotta be Cannon then, 'Cause Terry Nation Created and wrote most of Blakes 7. Thanks Ms. Bear, No. 7? Ooh, that's means there's at least 6 others within the series timeframe?? I hope they're not hard to get, cause all my series have come to a standstill, and I need a new series to read. And I think this just became it.
Posted By: Bmat Jun 26, 2002 - 06:52 pm | | You're welcome! It seemed to be available at Amazon- I didn't check any further. I'll be curious to know what you think about them if you get them. I liked the TV show a lot! I'd like to see it again.
Posted By: Nomad Jun 26, 2002 - 07:51 pm | | Wow...I enjoyed Blake 7 when I watched DR. WHO . I guess I piggy backed it, but it as cool! Almost like the FarScape of its time. Just A LITTLE MORE CAMPY.
Posted By: Jareth Jun 27, 2002 - 01:12 am | | Thanks for all that, it is a great help. the only book I have is the combination of the first few stories up until time squad. has anyone listned to the audio dramas for either B7 or Doctor who. The new ones from Big Finish are fantastic. Jareth.
Posted By: Sindatur Jun 27, 2002 - 05:56 am | | Well, it's actually by Paul Darrow (Avon himself) 1988, rather than Terry Nation. So this is probably what Jareth heard about and now I'm depressed. The darned thing is over $100.00 used. Baze or Ian, any chance you might see it at a used book store and could pick it up for me if it's relatively cheap? I did however take a chance on one featuring Jenna for a normal book price of $5.99, ordered it last night
Posted By: Bmat Jun 27, 2002 - 12:12 pm | | Wow, Sindatur! I didn't notice that. I did find copies of some of the others for around $8 at B&N" http://shop.barnesandnoble.com/oopbooks/oopresults.asp?keyword=blake%27s+7&userid=1AP969HIFX&mscssid=0TB4CXKDBEVD9KAR81BAU15QWHN363A6
Posted By: Nomad Jun 27, 2002 - 01:09 pm | | Try Ebay?
Posted By: Sindatur Jun 28, 2002 - 05:58 am | | Matter of fact, I did try Ebay, Ebay's a regular haunt of mine. We log in about everyday, looking for some sort of treasure or other. I'm watching a couple books right now. Thanks for the heads up on B & N Bmat
Posted By: Sindatur Aug 02, 2002 - 05:44 am | | Hi All, Well I succeeded in getting 4 books in one lot for $5.00. Not the Paul Darrow one, but among the ones I got was the novelization of the first episode and also Afterlife. I guess there are two visions of what happened after the final episode because Afterlife also apparently is a sequel to the series, picks up where the Series left off and it's by the same writer as the bulk of the books (Trevor Hoyle, or something like that). I'm just now starting to read it. The book I got that I thought featured Jenna was a mistake, turned out to be a "Nancy Drew goes to College" series and the main charater's name is Jenna Blake. Very well written and and very descriptive, but very dark. Too dark for my taste, so I put the Jenna Blake book down after 60 pages and switched to Afterlife. I'm only about 10 pages into it, but it started out pretty strong. It's written in European English (Centre, Realise, theatre...that kinda thing) so that's kinda neat in itself. ZI believe Afterlife is available pretty easily on Ebay Jareth, if you are interested in getting it.
Posted By: Sindatur Aug 03, 2002 - 07:13 am | | My bad, Trevor Hoyle wrote 3 of the 4 I got, but Afterlife is actually written by Tony Atwood.
Posted By: Sindatur Aug 15, 2002 - 06:51 am | | Well, I'm a little over halfway through and I'm likely the writing of the characters an awful lot. Tony Atwood has Avon, Servelan, and Orac down to a "T". Avon's trademark finger gesture and the rapid fire way he strings sentences together when he's treating someone like their an idiot. I'm liking this book more than I realized I would during the first few pages. Are any PBS (or other) stations still carrying Blakes 7? Spoilers below for the last episode of the TV series . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . One thing that confused me in the book is I thought Servelan was the one presiding over the massacre at the end of the final episode, but at the beginning of the book it seems she was not even there. Am I remembering wrong, was Servelan not there in the room watching?
Posted By: McCready May 21, 2003 - 04:01 am | | Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum, and I usually just do a lot of lurking, but I had to answer this post. Spoiler Ahead! Unfortunately Servelan was not in the last episode (a terrible oversight). Who else could have gotten the better of Blake, Avon and Co.? Still, this series remains my favourite SF series of all time.
Posted By: Zac Jun 25, 2003 - 03:33 am | | My Dad is a friend of Servelan as he is an artist and she models for him sometimes. Next time I see her around I will ask her if she is doing a new series.Come to think about it Im pretty sure that she mentioned something about this last summer-I think her agent told her that the BBC were thinking of bringing it back.
Posted By: Sindatur Jun 25, 2003 - 12:41 pm | | How cool, I love the characters that I have seen Jaqueline Pierce plays. The character she played in the Two Doctors (Dr.Who, Patrick Troughton and Colin BAker) was just as evil as Servelan)
Posted By: Maejai Jun 26, 2003 - 11:59 am | | Blakes7 was just the best! I was quite young when it was first shown on BBC and I worry a little that if I saw it again now i would think it a little bit naff. However - I would definately check out a new series. Is it just me or was Servelan actually very sexy?
Posted By: Bmat Jun 26, 2003 - 12:05 pm | | Servalan was a wonderful villain. Who else would step onto a strange planet in high heels and elaborate designer costume. And she had no concern about being evil. My favorite scene was when she used the weapon on everyone around to "mark" them in a way. I think it was that it took two hits by the weapon to kill someone, so everyone around her, her assistants, received the first hit. LOL!
Good News: The website is finally up for the revival of the classic UK sci-fi show over at: http://www.blakes7.com/ ...The site uses flash.... The site mentions a planned TV mini-series. This stuff from FAQ What’s planned for TV? Currently in development is a four-hour mini-series reviving the classic 70’s SF series Blake’s 7. It is the intention of the producer(s) that this mini-series will act as a back-door pilot to a potential series, or a series of telemovies. When will the Mini-Series be made? This a difficult question to answer definitively. The pilot script has been re-commissioned and is currently undergoing rewrites. It is anticipated that pre-production, i.e., the process of conceptual design, casting and script revisions will commence April/May 2004 with actual production commencing in the Summer 2004. Post-production, i.e., editing, music and special effects are likely to be completed by Fall 2004 with broadcast in the Spring 2005. All these dates are contingent on many factors not least financing. Will any of the original cast members be reprising their roles? As was the intention of the late Terry Nation, only Paul Darrow who played the character Avon will reprise his role, acting as a catalyst for a Rebellion Reborn. It is fair to say that all the original characters are dead and there are no plans for their resurrection.
