Posted By: ZimNova Jul 27, 2001 - 06:54 pm | | Zim does his best John Crichton impression. OK, I checked out this *Deadalus* dude and I'll give ya the readers digest version of the myth. He was this great inventor way back when in like Greek times, created a maze to trap some beast, got doubled crossed by the King and had to live in the labyrinth, escaped with his dumb-assed son, Icarus, who flew to close to the Sun and got killed. (he's in next weeks ep. btw) Later he, after running around, inventing more cool stuff and having great adventures, ended up on Crete where another King tricked him into the hot-tub for a little action and was killed by the kings daughters. Great story. So, *necessity is the mother of invention* would seem to be the theme of this current mini-arc. The Sci-Fi channel does not have the episode synopsis up yet so after I retieve all of the correct spellings of the characters names etc., and upon second viewing with play-back, I'll try to post something about this ep. Two things though. 1)Those fire-fights with the aliens were way too easy! Either the enemy are the UT's worst fighters or our hero's are the UT's best Master Marksman. They killed what, a hundred or more to none? Reminded me of another far fetched battle on the shadow depository in *LatP Pt.3* I mean, great battle scenes but totally unrealistic. 2)*Jack* as we saw in *A Human Reaction* and during the *and now for those not paying attention* prelude to *IP-D1*, looked like an *ancient* as we have come to expect. However when Jack *morphs* for Aeryn it looks like a *Rasta* version of their race. What's up with that?

Posted By: Crowe Jul 28, 2001 - 06:59 am | | Bmat, No doubt. That was hilarious. I've been thinking about this EP alot. Mainly the end. Very good ep over all. Some great Stark/Crais moments as well as some goo Rigel/Aeyrn moments. Rigel did a pretty good job too. The new enemy was a little too easy to kick around when it was around 200-2. But other than that I liked this ep. The end: I've been thinking and I think the scorpy might actually be the one who survived. Think of it, a Scorpy clone in full control of John, and next EP he has to unlock the wormwhole tech. Imagine if he got away with that knowledge! This would be a good reason why they half to kill him. Brining us back to square one with John and Aeyrn, because she'll have to get over John's death among other things. Odd situation. And not to mention the hints that were given in the chat. Ugh! --Crowe
Posted By: Bmat Jul 28, 2001 - 08:11 am | | This does seem to be leading to getting rid of the extra John. Do we know that clone Scorpy is not in the head of the other John? If this John is eliminated, what about what appeared to be physical break down of the other John? I liked the episode also. I like the tech lady. she was featured in my all time favorite episode. Did anyone else feel nostalgic at the planet and the solar flares? I had to think how much Zhaan would have enjoyed it. Rigel! Woah, getting nasty there! It was good to see the alien get his just desserts, and I think they would not have been able to get useful information from him anyway. Is Rigel dead? It wouldn't be impossible considering the theme of the series. Two of the things that struck me as odd, besides tne ease of killing the enemy, were their demanding numbers from the alien- as if they could trust anything he told them. And Crais's eyes- even if blind it seems one would wear protective goggles during a solar flare if only to preserve what nerves were undamaged.

Posted By: Bmat Jul 28, 2001 - 12:00 pm | | Thanks, Crowe!!! I should have remembered that! I was thinking that the Scorpy now incarnated in John's body would die, and that would take care of Scorpy. But now I'm not sure what impact the death would have if there is a second Scorpy clone around.
Posted By: Crowe Jul 28, 2001 - 02:28 pm | | Bmat - My fear is that the Scorpy clone in John's mind (Talyn John) will be the survivor of this ep's little experiment. Plus the ancient will unlock the wormhole technology. Then we are stuck with a new villain possibly if he lives. Someone who could team up with Scorpy, or worse, not have Scorpy's sense of purpose he could run rampant through the universe wreaking havok. Could you imagine him posing as John hitting every major bad guy in the universe and running. Leaving the mess for the real John and crew to pick up the peices. And most likely pick up new enemies they've never even met before. Could get ugly. --crowe
Yes, Zim the fighting was very unrealistic, which is too bad. Getting through a dozen aliens would have been impressive; a hundred isn't convincing. When Rigel was shooting the big gun, the blasts were too far away from the targets to be convincing too. I mean come on...at least have the explosion ON the dune buggy, not ten feet away from it! Rigel was outstanding this ep. His sheer glee destroying his enemies was conveyed very well. Its amazing how real that frelling muppet can seem! I'd think he wasn't actually killed (just severly wounded), but sharp objects in his stomach sure are becoming a habit, huh? I definitely think we are getting set up for Talyn John to bite it (or otherwise leave via the "Harvey now control's him" scenario) so we will end up with only one John as active crew by season end. When you think about it, Aeryn knows there is another, identical, John safely back on Moya. Even if she kills this John, he wouldn't really be gone. She knows that neither John would want to live with Scorpy in control, so I can see her pulling that trigger big time! Crais/Stark were a fun pair this ep. I liked how Crais insisted Stark had to be the one to go back to help him with Talyn, then bitched and complained about everything Stark did the entire time. I had the same "why isn't Crais' wearing his googles?" thought Bmat. He still would need to protect his eyes even if he was temporarily blinded or it could become permanent. And yep...that expression on John's face after the tech lady kissed him was priceless!
