Enterprise That is the name for the new series. premieres September 26 2001 in the USA. In my backwater country (New Zealand) it might be premiering in two too three years at the earliest. Why I say not the ships is obvious to the long time star trek fan. In other series the ships were called enterprise, ships could be discuss elsewhere I am not stopping you. I just thought people could come here and discuss the new series.
I just had another thought, I don't know what others think of having the series name the same as the name of pervious ships,in the other series (or should that be future ships). Note the new series will be set in a time before the other series.
Posted By: Caltana Sep 09, 2001 - 11:50 am | | Me to start then eh? As someone who generally dislikes all the series set in the 24th century, (There are a few bit and bobs in them that aren't too bad but overall...) I've high hopes for this one, as long as they do it right. The cast looks alright, Scott Bakula at the head last I heard, and the time period is one of its defining qualities. It looks set to return in some ways to the ethics of the original series, being more perhaps about exploring (less about intergalactic politics) and from what I've heard of Bakula's character there are shades of James T in him, though obviously he won't be an exact duplicate. One thing I didn't like the idea of (and I apologise if I'm giving away anything anyone doesn't know or want to, but I'll say it anyway) is that there's a Vulcan on board, and as we know Spock was the first in Starfleet. Of course they get round this by saying that Starfleet hasn't been formed yet, and though true, its still a pretty lame excuse. I just hope they get the story telling right with this new series, because its my opinion that they messed it up completely with Voyager and DS9 to a certain extent. Still there's going to be none of this luxiourious Enterprise D type of starship, we're back to basics. Still, I doubt we'll get it in England for some time yet.
Well, that's kind of the point...there is no "Starfleet", its just us taking our first ship out to actually explore space. As you may recall, the Vulcans were our first contact, and its logical (heh) for them to be around as we take our first steps. I don't think she's even a formal part of the crew-all the pics show them in (cheap looking coverall) uniforms, but she never is. What I hear is that the Vulcans don't even think we are ready to venture out and she is along to monitor what we do. Humans don't fully trust Vulcans yet, and Bakula has said his captain doesn't like them at all. Bakula should be a good captain, so I'm not worried there. However, its impossible to say yet if the series will be any good. I think I would be happier if Brannan/Braga had let someone else, with fresh ideas, take the reins. Just have to take a "wait and see" attitude to know if its any good.
Posted By: Aslan Sep 09, 2001 - 08:47 pm | | I'm with you, Master. It would be nice to see somebody new at the creative helm for this series, but the premise seems promising. I loved Bakula in Quantum Leap, but I'm afraid he'll have trouble getting past that niceguy image. I'm rooting for him, though, and will definitely give the show a looksee. It has the potential for great fun.
One possible plus: I understand its "pre transporter" technology. That means actually landing (or using shuttles) to visit planets. Also, no more twisted plotlines using transporters as a convenience for why X happened, or to fix Y. They have to come up with real solutions.
I heard that the transpoter had just been invented, and people were scared to use it, but that is just rumor. Someone will be correct. I heard that this show is about the first Enterprise starship. Which makes sense because it is called Enterprise. This ship will be different to the Enterprise in the original series as I understand. I thought the first enterprise was on the original series (TOS). This is according true according to the Star trek Chronology, first starship Enterprise built 2245, in movies and other series other Enterprise ships are labeled A-E. As always the show creators are free to make changes. Now information from scifispace.com, Scott Bakula as Capt. Jonathan Archer It is set in the 22nd Century and deals with the birth of the Federation and man’s first exploration of the galaxy. To find this and other info click on the above link and then click on the Enterprise logo. Or cut and paste this link to go direct. http://www.scifispace.com/html/enterprise.html

I was going to edit my above post bit I can't get in to do that at this time, so I will do a new post instead stay cool. Another way to say what I said above is just to say that the first Enterprise in the TOS series was labeled Enterprise, the second ship was Enterprise A from Star Trek IV. Enterprise D was in the TNG series. Now the first Enterprise will be in Enterprise the series. GOT IT. As always make up your own mind THE CAST Captain Jonathan Archer - Scott Bakula Science & First Officer,T-Pol - Jolene Blalcok (playing a Vulcan) Chief Engineer, Commander Tucker - Connor Trinneer Armoury Officer, Lt. Commander Reed - Dominic Keating Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Phlox - John Billingsley Helmsman, Lt. Mayweather - A.T. Montgomery Communications Officer, Ensign Sato - Linda Park Info from scifispace.com, Note Spock was the first Vulcan to go through starfleet, in Enterprise starfleet is not around at this time. One question which Klingons will they use, the ones from TOS, or the ones from TNG, I thing the ones from TNG. You can decide how KLINGONS should look in your own mind. A point to note this post has been edit, by me, just made a mistake somewhere.
Sorry Master but the Vulcan is part of the crew (Science & First Officer), but you are right she will oversee humanity's progress. According to the site.

Doctor Phlox is also an alien character , and like the Vulcan,(in images I have seen so far) does not were the uniform. Don't ask me why?
Just saw a commercial last night where Bakula says (something like) "Starfleet thinks were ready..." So, I'm guessing that "Starfleet" at this time is just an Earth thing that later becomes the seat of the United Federation of Planets (which is what doesn't exist yet). That would also explain why alien crew members don't wear uniforms--they wouldn't be part of Earth's Starfleet, but could be part of the "crew". Just like Neelix was crew in Voyager, but he obviously was never part of Starfleet and wouldn't were a uniform. The Enterprise name thing is a little muddy, but TNG acknowledged the relationship to prior ships named Enterprise, like the aircraft carrier. My guess is that it can again be explained with a relationship to the creation of the UFP. The TOS ship is probably the first UFP Enterprise, with its successors using the lettered designation. The Enterprise name is really just a convention...kinda like a common name. The actual UFP designation is NCC-1701x (where x is the successor designation). The pics I've seen for the new ship don't show an NCC designation on the hull. I've seen a couple of pics with "NX-O1 Enterprise" on the hull, but others have shown nothing on the hull. When the series begins, we should be able to confirm whether there is a designation and, if so, what it says. Either way, I don't think it reflects on the later naming of ships under the UFP. And since you mentioned the others, Enterprise B was the one in Generations, Enterprise C was only seen in an episode of TNG, and Enterprise E is what the TNG crew has used in the last two movies. Enterprise A was from ST V, not IV (IV was "The Voyage Home"...they used a Klingon ship). The Klingons will be TNG Klingons. That's been out for ages now.
