Posted By: AceHole Dec 17, 2004 - 07:02 pm | | Hi, anyone that can help is awesome! I was about 8 or 9 when it first aired, so I'll try to list as much I can remember... Mid to late 80's. It was on ABC (possibly Disney produced?). A ship docks with another ship where the crew is all dead excpet for one guy with a beard. They take him aboard and he becomes captain of their ship. (He cleans up and shaves the beard off). Also, I remember a scene with (acid?) rain where citizens of Earth wear plastic see-through poncho things. I remember an old woman being snotty to a couple characters in a futuristic phone booth. And I remember a teenage kid, who was one of the main characters. I tried IMDb; nothing. If anyone remembers, you are the greatest! I'll try to add to this thread if I recall more. Thanks so much!

Posted By: Qray Dec 17, 2004 - 10:53 pm | | AceHole - I believe your thinking of Earth Star Voyager (1988) The Earth's atmosphere has become acidic and polluted to the point that in a few years it won't be able to support life. A probe finds a distant planet named Dimiter and a ship is built to go there and check it out (a 25 year trip). The Captain dies early on and the crew (all young teenagers due to the need to have a young crew on an extended (25 year) journey decide to continue on and the second in command kid (Jonathan Hays)takes command. On the way, they discover an old abandoned space station and a marooned Captain (Jacob 'Jake' Brown) from a ship that up to that point was the farthest out human ship (no aliens in this tv movie.) They find out who he is and the kid Captain offers him command of the Earth Star Voyager (name of the ship) but he refuses. He does help out though and near the end of the movie his idea saves the ship in the movie's closing battle scene with the bad guys who want to use the Earth Star Voyager as their flagship. They have the components for energy weapons, but they need to assemble them (and don't have the time.) Being an old timer, he suggests they build a gauss cannon (particle accelerator) which was pretty cutting edge stuff in his day. LOL, I love the line in the movie between him and the teenage navigator of the Earth Star Voyager about this... Navigator : "A particle accelerator? That's pretty stone-age technology." Jake : "What would you like? A non-existant energy cannon, or a well aimed rock?" It's actually a good story and IMO only suffered from the fact it was a science fiction movie made by Disney in the 1980's. If it could be remade, it could have a lot of potential. (Q)

Amazing that you were able to supply a title AND a synopsis! You rule! Now to find out how to get a copy of this, hehe... Cheers, Ace
