I believe that Hayao Miyazaki is a brilliant brilliant director for all his films. I have just recently watched his movie Laputa: the castle in the sky and loved it. I doubt even G-Force or Lost Cities of Gold could compare to this great animation - but they are a different topic. And to top it off - Spirited away, Princess Monoke, Graveyard of Fireflies (which i am waiting to see) and Kiki's dellivery service. Must i say more?

I own Princess Mononoke. It's one of my favorite movies. Maybe not in my top ten, but in the top fifteen somewhere. But it's definately my favorite animated movie of all time.

And I'm sure that if there was a best Animimated Feature Oscar category when the movies was made then it would have won. Hands down.

I've also seen Spirited Away. That movie was awesome asa well. It deserved its Oscar in '02.

My favorite animated film is The Secret of NIMH, and coincidentally my favorite animated film director is Don Bluth.

Hayao Miyazaki is definitely good though. I liked Princess Mononoke better than most cartoons, and definitely better than any other fantasy or anime in recent years. I would probably rank it higher if I weren't so nostalgic over the Don Bluth cartoons I watched when I was little.

I like The Sercret of NIMH too and was terrebly dissapointed to find that they have just recently changed the cover of the dvd to make it look 'cute' and appealing to younger children. the older cover is way better.

That reminds me... has anyone seen 'Lupin III: the Castle of Cagliostro'??? its my favourite favourite movie. You have to see it.

I haven't seen it, and Blockbuster leaves something to be desired when it comes to anime... or musicals.

Just bought NIMH for my nephews and girlfriend's son. Excellent film. And Bluth is a true artist.

Miyazaki's films bowl me over, however. Just beyond wonderful. Spirited Away is in my top five favorite movies. Period. It's the movie I wish I'd made. Brilliant on every level. What distinguishes his works from everything else is not only the limitless imagination, but also the heart. His main characters always do the right thing without question. There's not that moment of indecision or inner battle. His characters usually just know, which is a great role model. They're never tempted by the dark side. And yet Miyazaki does a great job (especially in Mononoke) of showing that there are different interpretations of "the right thing".

All good stuff. I love it.
