PLEASE BOOKMARK THE NEW FORUMS
Fireworks Television is going to develop a live-action television series based on the Forgotten Realms novels. If you have read the books you will know the series will include magic, wizards, sorcerers, druids etc. It will be set in a medieval world. Info got form, http://www.scifimatrix.net/mainframe.shtml Hopeful the series will be as good as the books.

Some news from Scifi Wire. Forgotten Realms Due For TV Fireworks Television has bought the TV rights to the Forgotten Realms series of fantasy novels, Variety reported. Genre author R.A. Salvatore (the Star Wars novelizations) will write the live-action TV pilot, which will also be titled Forgotten Realms, the trade paper reported. Forgotten Realms will tell the story of a land filled with wizards and sorcerers. Wizards of the Coast, which owns the Dungeons & Dragons game property, will help Fireworks develop Forgotten Realms storylines, the trade paper reported. I like the stuff R.A. Salvatore writes, so at least the pilot should be good.

I am all for seeing a live action version of the Faerun stories, however I don't think that a TV series will survive. Salvatore is my favorite of the Forgotten Realms writers, however he had written for a very short lived TV show that was terrible; "Tarzan". I would rather see it as a motion picture, put if it ends up in Sci-Fi channel and they handle it like they did "Farscape" it may stand a chance. I would hope that they do not use existing novels as the stories. I still wish Mr. Salvatore & Wizards luck, and I will keep my fingers crossed...but I won't hold my breath.

If any of the creators feel the urge to show as many characters or as much of Faerun as possible then it ain't gonna work. I hope they'll be tempted by the Harpers as a starting point, which could go anywhere, but I have a feeling that if it's RA Salvatore then he might not be able to repress the urge to tell Drizzt Do'Urden's story. I haven't got anything against Drizzt, but I think his story would definitely work better as a film, since it doesn't exactly make for an ensemble cast.

Posted By: Aldan Feb 05, 2004 - 11:01 am | | My best guess, with how OLD the stuff you're responding to is, Drizzit, that the purchased rights never developed into the actual planned series. It's possible that the concept's actual sale to a network was hinging upon the Dungeons and Dragons movie doing well (which it did NOT). Therefore, the series appears to have done what almost all other series premises do - it's gone the way of the brontosaurus. It's too bad, really, but I could SO see that the shows would've been of low quality (look at the WB's Hercules (has anyone else noticed just how screwed up their god-system is - roman & greek names intermixed), Xena, Tarzan, and The Lost World-based series, as well as all the other ones of the sort. AAAACK!!!
I would know a roman name from a greek name, so I don't notice.....
Alright, just signed up...so hello everyone. I was wondering if that pilot was ever made? Or if anyone knows of any video representation of the realms at all? Flash, Misc. Animation? I have all the forgotten realms PC games. So I do have the various movies that were supplied with those. SUMMARY: Pilot ever made? Any other FR movie material?
As far as I Know the pilot was not made.... I have no FG games.... but I do have about 40 books....only read about 20.....
Thanks dark knight... I think i've canned about 10 FR books. i'm hesitating on Drizzt. So far, the Cormyr series has been my favorite. though, I wish that Elaine Cunninham would have added more books to go along with Evermeet. So where does one discuss their love of the Realms then?
Posted By: Aldan May 17, 2004 - 09:22 pm | | You really should read the Drizzt books, Anaril. Very well written characters, and RASalvatore has done a nice job in developing the MC Drizzt throughout the series. About Evermeet, do you mean followups to that novel? I think that she couldn't go too far with it, since the events in the novel were ones that the staff that controls the history and direction of the FR world takes would have to approve of any, and that's a pretty large obstacle to making other novels that would have such an impact on the world...
I've read on the Drizzt character a little bit, I like the ideas. Dark protector...all that. I guess I'm more "area oriented." I love reading about the rich histories, down to the last detail. Along the lines of evermeet...the whole time i was reading it, I was seeing little offchutes here and there that would have been awesome avenues for side novels - "character oriented" side novels. I picked up "the best of the realms" recently, and I saw where the authors do have an outlet for giving you a little more of a side character, or a main one. lol, didn't mean to write so much... summary: More area oriented books would be nice
Go here: http://speculativevision.com/forum/messages/15/606.html It's the Forgotten realms thread.... It's in the book section......the book section works alphabetical...
