Posted By: Hyperion Oct 24, 2004 - 05:23 am | | YEP the new version of this old favourite of most of ours, [[ at least in our younger yrs ]] Starts with it's first episode tomorrow on Sky One 20:00 25 OCT 2004 It has one very sexy female baddy whose character name is, "Number Six" and whose real name is, "Tricia Helfer" I hope the series is going to be as promising as it's been hyped Here is hoping.... Fingers Crossed.... Hyperion
Posted By: Magus Oct 24, 2004 - 05:56 am | | I wonder what the new one is like? I have very fond memories of the old one, of Starbuck and that robotic bear. That was an awsome show. I wonder how the remake will measure up to it.
Posted By: Nomad Oct 26, 2004 - 06:10 pm | | I liked it. Just remember...it is NOT a remake of the 70's, rather campy(IMHO), series. It is a remake, and a rather good one.Changed the characters, but, so far....in a good way. For us older sci-fi-ers, it is something hard to change toward...BUT, they have caugt my attention.
Posted By: Magus Oct 26, 2004 - 06:25 pm | | I'll have to watch and compare. While I did enjoy the old show, it, too, had its flaws. Now it's time to watch. Next it'll be time to compare.
Posted By: Nomad Oct 26, 2004 - 06:27 pm | | Magus, try to watch the show as it is new. Then Contrast and compare....but...keep in mind what I posted.
Posted By: Magus Oct 26, 2004 - 06:29 pm | | So where are they showing the new one? What channel? Sci-fi? And also do you know what times?
Posted By: Nomad Oct 26, 2004 - 06:47 pm | | Try this for fun ---> http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/ I am not sure when they will reshow the new mini again nor the start of the new series.
Posted By: Sindatur Oct 27, 2004 - 06:36 am | | Series starts in Jan on Scifi Channel. One would think they would show the Mini again just prior to showing the series, but, I have not heard positively on that yet.
Posted By: MerleZ Jan 19, 2005 - 05:44 am | | Well, SciFi did in fact rebroadcast the miniseries, followed by the first two series episodes last Friday. Anybody watch besides me? Bmat, I'm wondering if we could set this topic up for subtopics by episode? Thanks!
Posted By: Sindatur Jan 19, 2005 - 06:34 am | | I watched the Mini previously, and watched the first episode, second one I was cooking during, so didn't see much of it. Quite a good start to a series, I believe
Posted By: Pat0214 Jan 19, 2005 - 09:24 am | | In Canada the series is on Space on Saturday night at 8pm. I watched the 4 hours movie last year, a sort of introduction to it all. I loved it! Very different than the original from the 70's. It as a dark edge, more 21st century than the feel good style of the 70's the old show had. I saw the first episode last Saturday, was pretty good for a first one. Usualy the first episode can be a let down after the original pilot or movie.
Posted By: ZimNova Jan 19, 2005 - 05:11 pm | | Yeah I tuned in after watching the teaser for ST-Enterprise which looked on the surface suckey and was in the same time slot here in Boise. Not being a fan of the original series since I was a fan of the original Star Trek I thought, at the time, that BG was the "Dukes of Hazzard" of SF television. The space battles at the beginning reminded me of B-5 of all things. One interesting note was the serious dark tone of the two episodes aired last week. As this will be an arc driven SF series I liked the personal interactions between the main characters because after the Cylons wiped out most of the Human race they have to get serious by not frelling around with personal emotions so thus becoming a "team" that can have a small chance to survive and the fact that the Cylons can replicate Humans added another serious side to the story I thought. You know, SF "by the numbers" is boring so it was with great relief that ST-E developed the S-3 "Xindi" story arc and this season did the two "mini" 3 part arcs (Dr. Soong & Vulcan) stories which were quite entertaining. Let's hope BG can reach the same level of entertainment because the other "new" SF Channel spin-off series "StarGate-Atlantis" has been a bust so far IMHO and has failed to hold my attention. We'll see how the series progress' but up against ST-E, at least last week, I watched the new BG.

Posted By: woody000 Jan 20, 2005 - 01:37 am | | Im actually very impressed by it. It's very dark, but it's different. B5? Can't really see how they're that similar. I suppose some of the camera angles are similar, but the camera work generally is very weird on this. I guess the battles might be kinda, similar to b5 but more in-your-face maybe? Also, do people not like stargate atlantis??!! I was never a big fan of the original stargate, but I LOVE this new series. In fact, I've started watching the old series BECAUSE of atlantis lol. Oh well, I very often like things that get cancelled, anyone remember Earth 2?
Posted By: Pat0214 Jan 20, 2005 - 05:05 am | | yes woody000, I remember Earth 2 very fondly. I fact since last week, Space here in Canada as started showing all 24 episodes every Monday night. Been saving them on my hard drive to transfert them on DVD. I am also very unlucky for shows that I loved and got cancelled. Space Above & Behyond Earth 2 Firefly At least they never cancel Andromeda and I was sure they would do it after the first season, I never thought it would become so popular.
Posted By: Sindatur Jan 20, 2005 - 06:11 am | | Zim, Enterprise this week, was like the calm before the storm (I have a feeling some followup may come later though). This week there is a new Arc starting I believe. In my market, we have Enterprise on at 8 on Friday (Will be up against Stargate SG-1), and then it is repeated on Saturday at 7pm, so if you get into a quandry, you may want to check if/when Enterprise is rerun. Pat and Woody, I didn't watch Firefly, but Tru Calling was a favorite of mine, and they finally admitted this week that it is shelved, and they'll "Get around to playing the 6 episodes, sometime". They've been unwilling to use the word cancelled until then.
Posted By: Pat0214 Jan 20, 2005 - 07:05 am | | I wasn't able to follow Tru Calling much here in Montreal, I was able to catch the french translation on Z TV but not all of them. Those that I saw were very good. I am sorry to see it's been cancel as well.
Posted By: ZimNova Jan 20, 2005 - 04:23 pm | | Well WoodyOOO, what I meant by that was all the ships coming out of the Battlestar Galactica and then a hugh space battle ensues with "yellow bolts of light" (to quote John Crichton speaking on pluse pistols) and laser beams flying everwhere. That was a big battle. Also I'm of the same school of thought about SF-TV as B-5 creator JMS with his comment; "No cute kids or robots". That's why I'm not a big Star Wars fan. I liked the first & third (in order of production) movies but the last two were dren IMHO. Sindatur. ST-E lost me during the first 2 minutes last Friday so I gave BG a try. Firefly though is pretty frelling cool IF one likes a Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel) produced show mixing futuristic SF with an "old west" theme as well as a fine cast, great writing, sets et al. Think spaceships & horses on the same planet. One is for gettin' through "the black" by Serenity's crew, the other is for gettin' into town by the local folk. The 4 disk DVD "complete series" set ($34.95 most places) is well worth the coin if one were to ask my opinion on the matter.

Posted By: Hyperion Jan 21, 2005 - 05:40 am | | Firefly sounds interesting, I may have to watch a few eps of that to have a look. The new BG series though is great I am pleased that it's showing along with SG Atlantis because Atlantis has disappointed me somewhat. The mini story lines within the new BG are good I think, like I have said before I think, I like what they have done with the Cylons, its good stuff. We could do with allot more screen time inside the Cylon empire though, we need to see inside their battleships and bases, get to see inside their cities on their Home Worlds a whole lot more. Posted By: Aslan Jan 26, 2005 - 06:30 am | | I have a real hard time watching new SF series because the best ones tend to get cancelled. Farscape and Firefly are great examples of fantastic shows that were cancelled prematurely. After Farscape got scrapped mid-arc, I vowed not to watch a series on sci-fi again. If it lasts a few years and gets good reviews, I may check out the DVDs of BG in the future. But there's no way I'm going to get hooked just so the rug can get swept out from underneath me. No thank you.
Posted By: Sindatur Jan 26, 2005 - 06:41 am | | Aslan, this one may be safe. It's getting the best ratings Scifi Channel Series ever got. Firefly, actually was the evil Fox Network, who is even more evil than SciFi Channel, when it comes to cancelling SciFi Shows (Millenium, Tru Calling, Strange Luck, Firefly, etc)
