The only real "Elf" characters I've seen in anime are from Record of the Lodoss Wars. I've seen other kind of elf but really just pointy eared characters around every now and then.

Recently JodyJuice03 posted about elves in general, saying:

"When I first heard of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, I thought, "That's gonna suck!! I'll never see that crap!!"

My friends and I used to joke about it like, "I'm gonna use my elf sword and kill you, evil fairy!!"

Yea, was I in for a surprise or what!!

...

Oh my goodness!!! I was hooked!! It just killed everything I thought I knew about fantasy. The elves were in armies, and tall!!! The elf was laying people down with arrow after arrow!! The dwarf was kicking ass, too!!! My only notion of a elf were the short ones with the sparkly cheeks....but these were kicking ass in armies!!!

I thought, "Elves don't have armies!! This is frickin' excellent!!!"

And then, in response, Aldan wrote:

It's funny how anime and children's books can cause that misperception to happen...

What I'm wondering is this, is there any truth to this comment. Does anime paint elves and such in unfavorable light? I know they do it to dwarves... but elves?

"My only notion of a elf were the short ones with the sparkly cheeks..."

"Elves don't have armies!!"

The first quote goes along with the misperception it follows, the second does not. The reason for this, I think, is because Anime NEEDS armies and such organizations (the characters need something to either rebel against or to fight for).
