The promotions for the movie start tonight during the airing of DUNE. Been a long time since we had new B5 stuff to cover. Let's hope the series really takes off. Rumors, facts, opinions--post 'em here.

You missed it the first time around Bmat? Good mini series and well produced, but they did make some changes. The one that bugged me was the dropping of the secret name Usal. I always thought the fact that Fremen had private names and public names an important yet subtle clue to their society. Odd thing to change...like two minutes of tape to explain? I really wish the people who run these things would consult me first...

Anyway, I will have to watch part 2 and see if they play the promos then. Thanks for the heads up Iz!

Yes I saw it, Master .

I wanted to watch again to see the ads about Ranger, but between thunderstorms and the satellite feed acting up only got to see about a half hour.

I know I also missed the use of the private name, and I can't remember now if the tv show was closer to the book in that than the movie.

Another difference from the movie was that I missed the staining of the lips of the Mentats (I think that is right- the people who used spice for their mental abilities.) It made it harder to tell which character was which. I also prefered the Duke of the movie, although Hirt acted the part well. He didn't have the appearance I would expect in the Duke.

The weapons in the tv show did not come across as anything special without the use of voice.

Something I think was done better in the tv show was the transporting of the ships through space- that was interesting.

The movie did use both Usal and Maud'dib, which was true to the book. The stained lips for mentats were also part of the book and should not have been left out (again, a dumb detail to leave out). It was important because it was a "warning" that the person was a mentat (the whole human computer thing and fear because of the thinking machine wars that I believe are better explained in later books).

And yes, the transporting was much better, as were the guild navigators. They looked very crappy in the movie.

Unfortunately, I missed most of tonights too because I got home late. They didn't run any promos in the bit I saw I did note they will give a "secret" website URL for the upcoming Children of Dune sequel. My father will be in town tommorrow, so I'm going to miss that one too *sigh*. Guess I'll have to wait for regular promos to start to get my glimpse of Rangers! In the meantime, someone get that URL!

Well, either they are saving the promos for the final episode tonite or else they aren't really gonna run them.

Hey Master, have they checked with you yet about the Lord of the Rings movie? I hope someone is keeping an eye on them. They better pronouce all the names correctly!

That Secret website for Children of Dune was also where the preview of B5 Rangers was scifi.com\secret, they didn't actually show anything on TV, just the web address. I didn't get to it in time though, cause my 'puter at home wasn't ready to go yet and besides it was already 11pm when Dune part 1 ended

The Scifi site in it's newsletter is asking for your help in promoting the up coming movie....you can send them your ideas....the goal is to reach people who would not watch the movie...

They want to know what you think about invitations, T-shirts and downloadable flyers (that can be printed and handed out and/or posted) with tune-in information would be useful for B5 fans to give out and/or wear in order to get other people to watch the movie....

you can get your car Wraped in advertising for RANGERS...only in U.S. of course...

Please send your ideas to b5rangers@www.scifi.com and/or indicate your interest in having your car wrapped by Wednesday, Oct. 24....

I thought the series was pretty much a done deal with the Scifichannel. Thought they were impressed enough to just go ahead with the series. no?
