Posted By: Nomad Feb 13, 2002 - 06:02 am | | On a routine shuttlepod mission to investigate an asteroid field, Trip and Reed find themselves suddenly cut off from the Enterprise and become convinced that the mothership has been destroyed. With a limited oxygen supply and almost no chance of being rescued, the opposite-minded twosome must battle their annoyance with one another while also coming to terms with their impending demise. Is this the ep where we find out more personal info on Reed? We shall see!
Posted By: Nomad Feb 14, 2002 - 06:04 am | | Well, I need to watch this ep again. I was interrupted on Many ocasions by my 4 1/2 yr old. From what I did see, we certainly learn a lot more about Reed. He really is a loner, eh? He obviously never let himself go personally with other people. That is, until Enterprise showed up in his life. Trip sure can hold his booze more than Reed. It wqas a pretty good idea, not just to get numb, but to drink the antifreeze. Alchohol! Gotta love that little fantasy dream that Reed had about T'Pol and then the ending of the show with Reed expecting her to say the same things. LOL. I wonder if he will persue a relationship? Steppin' on the Captains toes? Hmmmm Was that the Bay Doors that were on the asteroid? Ill have more to say later.
Posted By: fanuilh Feb 14, 2002 - 06:37 am | | I thought it was a good episode. We know that they're going to be saved somehow (the Trek Franchise kills off main characters occasionally but the word usually leaks out well beforehand and people start screaming), but the fun was watching how Tripp and Reed interacted. Huge difference in their initial responses, but Tripp, for all his stated optimism, at heart felt the same way Reed did -- that they were screwed. I wonder if Stinky is Reed's nickname from years past? And if it is, I wonder how he came by it? Funny that Reed had all those old girlfriends to say goodbye to, also. For somebody who doesn't want to get close to people, he sure was busy.
I skipped it to watch Olympics (I really like the Olympics). Figured I'd pick it up on Sunday or tape it if need be.

The shock wave from the exploding engine might have shoved the shuttle off course and adrift, but it would not have slowed it down. So Reed's comment that they were going even slower than a snail's pace was wrong. They were going the same speed as before. Just on the wrong vector.
Posted By: Azziz Feb 15, 2002 - 09:09 pm | | Good character development. I liked this episode. Most of TV is predictable, it is the journey that makes for interesting TV and I think Tripp and Malcolm's interactions served the story well.
Posted By: Nomad Feb 18, 2002 - 07:32 am | | Iz, I think that basicaly Trip meant that ANYTHING in sub-light speed is a snales pace. He was originally comparing it to Warp 3. LOL...for an engineer who should be able to rattle off an answer to .."A train leaves Boston at 10:00 and another Leaves Chicago at......" that was funny. I think Trip and Reed shoyuld become pals.
I thought it was OK for what it was. Every Trek story can't be big bangs or they'd be broke I enjoyed their banter and the character development was good for both of them. It struck me as odd for Reed to be so negative though. I would have taken him for a "whatever" kind of guy. IMHO the dream thing with Reed and T'Pol was the weak spot. It was...well, weird. Still, even though I thought it good for the characters I think its one I won't go out of my way to watch again in reruns.
I agree Master it was OK. I didn't thing much of the dream, by that time I was thinking when is the story line going to warm up, good thing it did abit. Well that's it, they have taken Enterprise of in New Zealand, were we get new programs at a snails pace. They say it will be back later this year, I've heard that before, and since when was this the end of the season or did I miss hear. Anyway by the time it comes back No one will be to interest in what I have to say, about it. Last Enterprise Post for me, maybe.
Posted By: Nomad Jun 10, 2002 - 06:38 am | | Dark KNight, We are always inmterested n hearing a fresh perspective on ANY episodes. We often re-watch then re-post on eps we'e seen, so with you seein any new ones for the first time...it would be refreshing.
What Nomad said...not everyone gets things on the same schedule, and you are always welcome to post on older eps as they reach you. Surprised its been pulled off the air in NZ, even for a little while. Are the ratings for it really bad there or something?
I can't get hold of ratings for Enterprise so I would know, the channel as a whole is meant to be doing better since they changed their line-up, but I don't know how well Enterprise was doing over here. Going back to the ep, I thought they jump to the concluision that the Enterprise was destoryed and everyone dead way to quickly, I could come up with several ideas, like the they where in a battle & they were all captured,or they took of at high wrap to escape but they were damaged & they also damage emeny ships- as to escape pods, well they could have been taken, - didn't any of the wreakage look alien?
Over here in NZ they had a Star Trek night with Enterprise on at 7.30 followed by 2eps of Next Generation & then at 10.30 TOS. They have moved the TNG eps to 10.30 week days. The only thing not changed is TOS. Here is what the channel says in response to an email I sent them: With regard to Enterprise... The producers wanted Enterprise to appeal to a wider audience than those who are devoted Star Trek fans, hoping it would appeal to a wider drama audience. However we had to buy a considerable number of Next Generation and Original episodes also. The effect has been that Enterprise on Sunday night has been perceived as just another 'Trek' and thus is being watched in the main by Trek fans only. This is disadvantaging Enterprise and is lowering the potential of the series - Sunday is being viewed solely by those who follow Star Trek - the rest of the population struggle with it. This is not what the producers wanted and not what we wanted. We have in mind two other series (not Star Trek) due for release later this year (all going well) that we hope will be better partners for Enterprise and once these are available we will be better placed to evaluate how to associate them with Enterprise. In the meantime we are still obliged to run Next Generation and the Original given the number of episodes acquired. Regards

"We are still obliged...!" Well!!!! Humph! Thanks, Dark Knight, it was interesting to read what was going on there.
