I'm looking to branch out some of my science fiction reading. What would you say are the best science fiction books/authors of yesterday? WHat about today? Who appears to be the next up and coming Michael Chrichton or Frank Herbert?

Alastair Reynolds at number 2
Iian M Banks at number 3
Peter F Hamilton at number 4
John Meany at number 5
William Gibson at number 6
Neal Asher at number 7
