What if there was more than one universe?

Hmmm. A question that made me ponder and now I am writing a book to illustrate it. What if there really were more than one Universe and the black holes were portals that could lead into them? Winds~

Posted By: bluemoon Oct 04, 2003 - 03:08 am | | It might be a bit embarassing heading off to the other universe and ending up just in another part of your own universe.
Posted By: iamume Oct 04, 2003 - 11:50 am | | What a discovery such a natural stargate would be.If these portals exist appearing to be black holes then they would appear to be oneway.I hav'nt heard of any phoenomena that would indicate a black hole leading here.Though I hav'nt given astronomy serious study.
Posted By: waverley Oct 05, 2003 - 11:59 am | | Okay, this is something I read in this Scientific American article this past June. I can't remember if it was the May or the June issue, but anwyay it was in the Scientific American so you can go check it at the official place if anything ... *rolls her eyes* Oh okay, let me do the dirty job for you: http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=sa006&colID=1&articleID=000F1EDD-B48A-1E90-8EA5809EC5880000 I didn't finish reading it either... but as I understood it, the statistical possibility exists, because if: a) universe is endless, and nobody has proved the contrary and b) the mass of all the universe is evenly distributed throughout it Then, statistically, all the infinite possibilities exist and hence there are not only more universes, but parallel universes where there is an exact replica of you doing the exact same thing as you are doing... and then there are gazillions of other yous who took all the gazillions of different options you didn't take during all your previous lifetimes... and even now... there go some more... It's kinda very speculative, of course, but it brings up interesting thoughts, wouldn't you say? ... Like that there are loads of me out there. Boy what a hell of a party we would make if we managed to get together. ;P waverley
hello all..... im back after a long vacation... boy is this alot to think about... i like youre piont waverly i have often wondered about that myself to tell you the truth ok here are some examples of what i mean 1) ok say youve been told someone looked exactly like you and you wernt related or anything and you guys didnt even know each other 2) you guys have much in common including age, looks etc... but you dont think anything of it and somebody tells you.. 3) youve always wondered if u had a twin floating around somewhere but u couldnt find them and everyone else mentioned something about how much you and a stranger look so much alike... Now Im not saying that you would have a twin like mary-kate and ashley olsen but that you and another stranger had so much in common that it was way to strange for anyone to believe that you guys werent related... If god exists which im not saying he isnt then would he have a purpous for this he never said anything about extra universes but doesnt the biblical texts give us some hints? Correct me in im wrong but isnt there a saying that anything is possible? My beleifs do not match with all the scientific beliefs out in this world of ours but im not dumb enough to jump off a cliff and think i can fly....but do you ever think that scientists knmow more than they arent saying? Oh and if you really want to start thinking... read Heartflight by T.A. Baron

Okay, in the real world, I am a pretty skeptical person, in the sense that 'seeing is believing' fits me pretty much. But I have many friends who are as sane, normal and intelligent as you are, Adrianna (I can't vouch for those three traits in me, you know, esp. the sanity one ), and they believe in abstract concepts such as those you mention in your post. Could you explain yourself further? It's always interesting to learn about other people's opinions, esp. since nobody's saying my own are correct. w

The Multiverse is collection of parallel universes. In this article a formal theory and a topos-theoretic models of the multiverse are given. For this the Lawvere-Kock Synthetic Differential Geometry and topos models for smooth infinitesimal analysis are used. Physical properties of multi-variant and many-dimensional parallel universes are discussed. The source of multiplicity of physical objects is set of physical constants.
If the universe if infinite, wouldn't it be just as likely that there would be universes in diametric opposition to ours?...or do the laws of physics suggest that the likelihood would be that they are similar? Put that in your abacus and compute it.
Posted By: Aldan Mar 18, 2004 - 02:31 pm | | Abacus unnecessary. "Infinite" means that the possibilities are unlimited, that anything is possible, so it's just as likely for there to be diametrically opposed universes as there are to be similar ones or identical ones...
Posted By: iamume Mar 18, 2004 - 07:48 pm | | Could there be an infinite universe contained within a finite one?
Posted By: Aldan Mar 19, 2004 - 12:34 pm | | Vice versa, assuredly. However, a finite uni? How would that be defined? Would it be something along the lines of the Fictions from R.A.Heinlien's future history series, especially the novel, "The Number of the Beast", in which they actually GO to such places as Oz, where the "universe" only consists of what the readers and writer have created, on paper and/or in their minds.
A universe defined by infinite time contained within a physically finite universe?
The answer is: the universe and time space don't act like cars in a lot.
Posted By: iamume Mar 23, 2004 - 09:11 pm | | If these cars in the lot are a part of the universe then it does act like cars in a lot,and a lot more.
