[[Elixir of a Stormy Night]] The fireworks are still dancing in the inky blackness of night (though it’s long past Fourth of July), and it’s beyond the time where fireflies dance for the rising moon which now hangs like an orange globe in the sky. The already slurred speech of a thousand people fades into an undistinguishable buzzing, (almost musical if you listen), until it’s finally silent. I step away from the screaming stillness and off into my own world, where Cinderella dresses and glass slippers are the required apparel, a world safe from stone cold hearts and bloodied tears. Urgent voices call me in as a storm begins to wake, but what’s a summer downpour if you can’t sit in the midst of it and say you’ve won. I’ve gotten used to the acidic feeling of raindrops dripping down my back, sending shivers of bliss and agony through my body (much like you did). The lightning flashes almost purple (like the sweater I was wearing last night), and illuminates a thousand thoughts and a million moonlit memories. Yesterday, sitting on the rain soaked grass from an early morning cloudburst, your cold, dry fingers wrapped around my baby soft ones. Your crystalline blue eyes looked into my glowing amber ones and said a final farewell. The look of remorse on your face was a simple façade you had perfected by then. As I walked down the puddled sidewalk, and watched the sheets of rain weave a design in simple strokes, I found my bloodied tears (which I’ve poured my life into) blending with the acidic raindrops of my first summer storm, creating an elixir that’s never tasted better.
