Is melodrama bad?
Is melodrama bad?We have moved to new forum software and posting here is closed!
That is my own biggest criticism. i'm way too melodramatic.
awwww crap i spelt melodrama wrong.
Yes, melodrama is usually bad.
man oh man. Bmat, if i ask to see these flames and promise to not respond could i please see them? i'd like to see how wittie he really is.
anyways you need drama to make a story good and i've only had like five potentially great scenes ruined by melodrama so far. just really angers me that it reads like 'days of our lives'
Melodrama is your character doing dramatic things and acting in ways that are a little much, or don't have a purpose to them. (Not dictionary definition, just a gist ... I'm sure someone like RF could define it better.)
lol
ya know, i'm setting here thinking and i'm wondering if daelish knew i was talking about writing.
Eleika, not exactly, it's:
Mina watched as the guards marched her lover to the gallows.
jcbn - Just try to tone down their actions. If you think they're being melodramatic, just take whatever they're doing and make it less. Using RF's example, don't have the theoretical "Mina" claw the ground and scream and wish vengeance upon the world. Have her quietly mourn and watch in horrified fascination. Let the image of her lover's blue and bulging face (post-hanging) slowly build in her a cold hate that gives her a strength to accomplish whatever she must, and that could still be something big, like vengeance.
