That's pretty cool. I didn't put so much thought into my name. I just made a cool sounding name that happened to be an actual word, meening mage or sorceror. It happened to fit with what I was doing and kept it and made it my Name when I came here.

Wow, that IS cool.

My real name is Ben, but I added part of an Arch Headhunter's name to the end of it!
I don't know if any of you hard-and-fast fantasy fans have ever heard or read any of Louis L'Amour. He was a very famous western writer, The story that I got the name from is one of his stories, called 'The Diamond of Jeru'. It's actually a movie also.

I changed Jeru to Jaru, because I thought it sounded better!

Did you know that in the Extended Version of LOTR The Return of the King, Grima does kill Saruman?
It's at the time when Pippin finds the palantir (spelling?) they cut a long scene where Gandalf was trying to get Saruman to tell what he knew of Sauron's plans. Grima stabs Saruman after getting knocked down by him, and Legolas shoots Grima. Then Saruman falls off of his tower.

Yeah, I got the extended version (collectors box set edition) the day it came out =p

its a good scene, and it shows how clever they were when they edited it out

oh, and I dont put much thought into my very alien names, though I try and make them fairly similar in style. I do occasionally say that one race will have a relation to italian... or another old english etc but I only do that a bit, (with very human races).

Yeah, I saw it. But I really wish that they left it the way it was in the book, what with the Scourging of the Shire. But that was a clever bit of editing from the edited ROTK and the Extended ROTK.

Ya, the Scourging of the Shire was one of my favorite parts too...

I'm just a lowly woodcutter!!?!

Caegaraneva, HELP!!!
I was tring to convert my name into sindarin, just to see what it would be, but it won't work.
My last name is Sawyer, meaning:

wood cutter, wood worker, or wood saw-er,

It would not convert very well. how would you suggest I go about it?

Oh, BenJaru, I, too, am a reader of L'Amour. I was exposed by my father, who grew up in Wyoming. While many of his MANY novels are pretty darned similar, and many of his characters are likewise, I was impressed with his ability to not only create one important family to base novels around, but two of them, and how those families are very distantly connected to each other, etc.

Aldan,
I totally agree, he was a skilled author, and although his characters were similar, they were very well developed. What is your favorite L'Amour novel?
I think my favorite is Sacketts Land, it is far more like a swashbuckler than a western.

BenJaru :)

Boy, that's TOUGH... I'm stuck between Sackett's Land and Jubal Sackett. I really like those early ones in which he really EXPLORES America. Splendid.

Yup, I REALLY like the early ones too. :)

Aldan, are you writing a book, novel, series?

Does anyone want to hear about my series?

I want to hear about yours! ;)

Hey BenJaru, where were you looking to translate your name? Councilofelrond.com has dictionaries for Sindarin, Quenya, and some other less common languages as well. There is a names database as well, which will translate names into elvish.

Sawyer wasn't in any of them, but Benjamin was in Sindarin, giving the entry;
Hebrew:
1. son of the right hand. Sindarin: Fairion
2. son of the south. Sindarin: Haradion

Both pretty cool names if you ask me.
As for Sawyer, I had to go searching through the dictionary itself. There was no entry for "saw" but there were entries for "wood" and "cut." Wood covers a whole range of things (like the "forest" type of wood) so I had to compare the entry for "wood" to the one for wooden, and see which word for "wood" meant the building material type.

The words are "taur" and "tawar".

For cut, there are two verbs, the infinitives being risto and esgeri. The stems for those are rista- and osgar-.

So if you want to translate your name as "Cuts Wood" or something vaguely like that, it would be "Ristataur, or Taurosga" or you could even stretch it a little bit to "Esgeritaur" or "Ristotawar" or any other combination.."Tauresgeri" etc.. Pick one you like!!

I hope that helped. Ya, I would like very much to hear about both of your novels!

I wanna learn elvish, it's just the best language. I can say "One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, one ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." (though thats in dark speech of course) but thats about it lol.

Probably, BenJaru. This topic concerns another subject matter. It would just be easier all around if there was a new topic.

OOPS! I should clarify. You should probably make a new topic.

Sorry about that. I just naturally assumed you all could read my thoughts.

LOL

I'm making a new topic in questions for people to talk about their novels. I think everybody wants to hear about each others' works. I'll call it Fairion's Novel.

Ok Magus...

I am really flattered Caegaraneva! lol

Um, do I need to worry about people stealing my ideas? Or am I just being stupid... ;)
