The mall was the one hangout where Jon and Todd really felt comfortable. Amidst so many people it was easy to lose yourself and just be one of the crowd. That was, until, “TODD!!!”
Todd winced and turned to face down the woman yelling at him.
“Told you she’d be here,” Jon said, “I told ya.”
“That doesn’t make it any better Jon.” Todd replied, never taking his eyes of Mika as she came closer.
“Where the hell were you last night?” she asked, walking up to him and smacking him right in the middle of the mall square, attracting curious looks from the bystanders and passersby and more than a few looks for Todd from some of the girls.
“I told you, my mom needed help with supper and the dishes after. And since my dad got home late there was no chance of me coming over.” Todd explained in a very exasperated voice. He was obviously annoyed. “Besides, it’s not like you’re my girlfriend or anything, it’s not my civic duty to see you all the time.”
Jon groaned this time as he watched Mika’s hand crush Todd’s face to the side.
“Fine, don’t expect any help from me next time you have a problem with your math homework. I’m done with you Todd.” She harrumphed and turned, strutting off angrily.
Jon looked at his friend and smiled, “For the 100th time this week Todd, I’m done with you, so I’ll call you tomorrow ‘kay?” he mimicked Mika’s voice almost perfectly.
Todd laughed, “Why can’t she just mean it one of these times?”
Jon shrugged, “I still think you should follow my idea.”
Todd shook his head, “No Jon. For the last time, it’s not worth the hassle.”
