Re: The gambler. An attempt at 3rd person
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I find 1st person easier too, hence forcing myself to try something new. The only tip I have to offer is something offered to me which was to decide who you are going to inhabit either for the whole story or each chapter. Even though in the 3rd person you can jump a...

Great for generating ideas and plotting. runs a degreelevel writing course so has useful exercises in to...

Re: The last punch - feedback please
Thanks very much guys. I am surprised at the idea that it is subtle, I didn't think I was capable of writing subtle! I will give the idea of paragraph breaks or type face changes a go.

Could please have some feedback on this short story. I am wondering whether some back story is required. Thanks The Last punch “You can tell it if you like, before we go.” “Don’t you know, I thought you knew everything?” “Not for me, it’s important for some, maybe for you. You don’t seem quite ready...

Re: A Brief Haunting
Thanks, I have been trying to improve my writing in general but it is hard to know whether I'm actually improving or just doing things differently so I've gone back to some old stories to see if I can make them work better. Your comments are very encouraging, thank-you.

A Brief Haunting
“Do you love him?” A cold thick silence fills the car. I stare at the road as it disappears beneath the windscreen and I wait, and wait. A fragment of a moment and one unanswered question. That’s all I have left in my head as I watch dirt land on her coffin. It’s just ceremonial, throwing the dirt. ...

Plotting and structure
I finally have an idea that I think may work as a longer piece, a novella or maybe even a novel but i am having problems trying to work out a structure for the rough plot i have in my head.
Doea anyone have a method of plotting and/or structuring thier stories? and if so would you share them?

Re: Writing points to improve
I found that doing a creative writing course is helping with the specifics. Doing exercises to get you plotting work and generating proper character profiles and such like. There were a few simple (simple but not always easy) things that we were told that really helped with the things you listed. Di...
