Re: Any Catholic Science Fiction readers/writers here?
I'm bumping this because I'm lonely. Can't believe it's been three years since I made my previous post here! The writing project has hit snags, frequently even stalled out, yet I haven't pulled the plug on it either. I'm strongly considering rebooting it as a blog that includes the worldbuild...

Re: Did I just imagine this upcoming movie? Help!
Never mind, boy am I embarrassed . . .
The problem was I was thinking "movie" when I should've been thinking "TV show" - it's "Ascension" on SyFy and I just stumbled across a blurb on it via a Doctor Who site. Sorry for the confusion.

Did I just imagine this upcoming movie? Help!
I'm frustrated, and I hope I don't pass along that frustration by asking this. But I'm going to ask it anyway. I came online this morning to look up information about a movie I could swear exists or is going to exist - a new release or upcoming release. Thing is it was just one of those fleeting thi...

Re: Ideas for various aliens - writer's share-an-idea thread
Hello everyone! :smt006 I'm glad I found this thread again - I haven't been on the boards that much the last few weeks. These are great answers and recommendations for fictional examples. I have also thought about human variations for future stories and am keeping a notebook of ideas there too. I'll...

Randall Garrett Lord Darcy books
Just wondered if anyone has heard of Randall Garrett and his Lord Darcy books. I am currently reading an omnibus edition and enjoying it a lot. It's alternate history with the survival of Richard the Lionhearted and the Plantagenet kings into the 20th Century. :king: Lord Darcy is a Sherlock Holmes ...

Re: I think I want aliens that are sort of humanoid in my no
Thanks Asp - how are you, good to see you again. Thanks for the recommend. I'm thinking a parallel evolution (sort of) thing where they end up walking on two legs and having two (different sized) sets of arms and a head and torso - so still sort of humanoid too. It's kind of hard to describe. I'm tr...

Re: I think I want aliens that are sort of humanoid in my no
I'm going with the 5 thing - and perhaps a different "parallel evolution" with it - like maybe they evolved from something that was originally rather similar to a starfish, then the symmetrical five appendages became specialized. Might also throw in some different biochemistry or genetics if that do...

Re: How to know the right time to begin the narrative
An interesting notion, I don't fully agree with it I must confess... if you're not telling a story then why are you writing a book? If you are writing about things happening which have no relevance in some way to moving the plot forward then its wasted space. Bmat is right I think to say that you n...

Sounds like a great system to me!The Master wrote:Santa's sleigh possesses magical powers that allow it to defy the passage of time and instantaneously transport Santa wherever he needs to go. The rocket boosters are mostly for show.
