My weakness is the fact that I am unable to put my imagination into words anymore. There's certain things that go through my head, fight scenes, changes of camera angle, music to go along with a scene, that cannot be expressed in the written word. Because of this I've actually stopped writing entir...

What Q-Ray said + the knowledge and logic of the history on your world (and the technological advancement of each kingdom) + types of attack = your answer. (For instance, if the castle was made to defend against a kingdom known to employ siege-machines, then yeah, a moat would likely be placed to pr...

Both action and dialogue tags should be used with moderation. I've read a lot of dialogues (and written) that used too much of either, and it feels fake, forced, made up, unreal. It's just difficult to get a proper pacing in a dialogue, it will often break the pace of your chapter if done incorrectl...

First for the original question: Strong point: Insanely strong surges of raw inspiration and a nigh one-ness with the characters/stories at those times. Weak points: - Avarage time between surges... several months of inactivity. - Dialogue (I'll come to it later...) - Ideas don't match up, working a...

It's odd. It's like I can see the characters, I know them. Through and through, they are mine, part of me. The story too, seems somehow familiar and I keep having thoughts and occurances about how the story could develop (though, apart from the the characters it doesn't seem very coherent). I want t...

A flash
A flash of inspiration, a word-processor near and too much cola to be good for me. This is what happens to me when I'm not feeling like me. This I wrote as another sideshow to one of the many old projects (I lost count) that I never seem to finish. This time I just saw flashes of my story idea (to b...

I recently read a book that was written from the point of view of an Orcish warband. Though Orcs are warlike and brutish people that rather act then speak in this novel you do get to 'live' and sympathize with these Orcs. I found that in this novel, everything was written from their point of view. E...
