Many many many of the poems I wrote for the Emily D challenge were throwaways. But I did come up with quite a few good ones as well. Eventually I'll share them here. Unfortunately, I've shared a load of my poetry on another site and am rather tired of my own stuff at the moment. We'll see. Like Alda...

Poetry Gab

Noticed there's not a place to discuss poetry in general, so here it is. I have nothing intelligent to say at the moment, just wanted to get this launched.

But I'll be back.

I love how this becomes more than a poem about a hike (though nothing wrong with a poem just about a hike as far as I'm concerned). Are you still wanting to tamper with this or just sharing? With the little rhyming I've done lately, I find the type here, rhyming every other line (or XaXa XbXb, if yo...

Grim, but very well managed, Aldan. Love the blurring of writer and character. You do it without it ever being disorienting. While the rhyme seemed a little forced in the first couple stanza's, both rhyme and meter became very smooth as it progressed, to the point of being virtually unnoticable, whi...

Yes, your smiley is laughing now but round about poem 220, how will it be feeling? Perhaps it will just be laughing for a different reason.

Actually it would be great to do Emily D challenge with a few other people. You can cheer each other on--or moan together, share poem ideas, etc.

Aldan, I am also almost exclusively a free verse poet. However, lately I've decided to try rhyming again. I'm pretty abysmal but that's no reason to stop trying. The project, thus, is a stretch for me in terms of both form and conception. But I'm essentially doing it as an exercise, not an attempt t...

About the only thing I remember is the way she conceptualized the relationship between Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere, which I thought was brilliant and made a lot of sense. And if that doesn't get you reading it, Lady Flame, I don't know what will. Really a great book. I don't remember details but...

Thanks, Magus. Some good ideas there. I had considered a Beowulfish scheme. Keats had attempted a rewriting of the battle for power among the old Greek gods. I'm still mulling and will let folks know if I finally settle on something and give it a try.

Okay, Moderators, the *beep* above covers a word synonymous with hope that begins with a W and was followed by the word it. Can you explain how that is offensive? LOL

Don't tell me what happens but the full truth about the fool keeps me reading, especially in light of his relation to the liveship stories. I think Sam and Frodo have a less equal relationship than Fitz and Fool. Sam is clearly a servant as well as friend. Yep, time to try to sleep. Wondering about...

Need ideas for epic poem

Last year about this time, I read about a challenge that Shelley made to Keats to come up with a 4000 line (as I recall) poem in rhyming couplets within six months. I would like to try writing a long poem in rhyming couplets but can't think of a topic/story line that will fit. Usually long poems are...
