Re: Ideas for various aliens - writer's share-an-idea thread
Evolved, modified, enhanced - different humans can be good writing fodder so welcome and thanks for sharing! In researching for my own writing I ended up back at the pre-cellular molecule level and became rather absorbed in the research itself - questions such as the silicon based life form, or DNA ...

Re: Solenopsis
I like it. It's lean, tight, visual, and the humorous twist at the end bringing in the human narrator's reaction makes me smile.

Re: Ideas for various aliens - writer's share-an-idea thread
Another area that's wide-open would be alien genetics - would DNA or something very similar have evolved elsewhere, and if so what are the implications of that . . . or the opposite question, what carries an alien race's replication code if it is something very different from DNA?

Re: Starwars, Episode Seven
Here is a link to a site I found - don't know if it's super-reliable or just sort-of-reliable: http://www.starwars7news.com/ I'd be interested if others find it worth looking at.

Ideas for various aliens - writer's share-an-idea thread
Thought it might be fun to share an idea or two for an alien race that you have thought up and toss around with other writers how you might make use of that feature in a story. It can be something you aren't going to use yourself, or even something you are using in a story but want to see how someon...

Re: Any Catholic Science Fiction readers/writers here?
:D Yes, I did see that. I know its was mentioned in fairly recently-written books I've been reading about how our current animals took greater hold after that event. I guess more and more is being learned all the time - see this: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/28/health/28iht-dino.4.5060978.html?_r=...

Re: Any Catholic Science Fiction readers/writers here?
Thanks, SuperC! Amazing how we keep narrowly avoiding apocalypses (apocalypti? -- also pretty bizarre that we need a plural for that word) over and over again. It's almost like there is an industry out there churning them out. I'm looking forward to reading that novel, so keep working. And now an a...

Re: How to know the right time to begin the narrative
I think it's coming together - I have several characters who have connections over the course of the storyline. (It spans more than one generation.) I realize that if I sort out what events are going to happen and which character will be most directly involved in each, that will help a lot. The big ...

How to know the right time to begin the narrative
I recently read this advice, can't recall who said it but it was "start your story as late as possible." Which tends to be the opposite of my natural inclinations. So I'm trying to break this trend and start at an exciting point which truly introduces the main interesting arc of my novel. Sometimes ...

Re: Starwars, Episode Seven
It will be quite interesting to see what happens. I think I must brush up on the "canon" books in case the producers decide to use some of that material. I've heard that may not be the case; Disney may come up with whole new stories. In any case, let's just hope they are good.

Re: Any Catholic Science Fiction readers/writers here?
Maybe a person should send for a print copy - it might either be a collector's item someday, or . . . (wait for it) come in handy when the zombies dismantle the internet...

Re: Any Catholic Science Fiction readers/writers here?
That's my New Year's resolution! One of them, anyway! Since it'll still be awhile before I get the novel done, and seeing as apocalpti  are always a possibility, you could pass the time productively preparing for a Zombie Apocalypse! http://www.cdc.gov/phpr/documents/11_225700_A_Zomb...
