Correct
On the note that halfbreeds are unnatural and unusual I'd say I have the upper hand on most works of fiction. In any D&D game you'll have both Half Elves and Half Orcs with no explanation as to how they came to be.
I have a halfbreed that came to be with a rather complicated story of war, racism and magic.

Ok, well... he does have us there...

Uh, huh?
In any game that deals with half-Elves and half-Ogres, I know exactly how they came to be.
Some human male/female and some male/female Elf or male/female Ogre got busy and together a child was spawned.

Heh, alright alright.
So, we have this librarian who is doing something that hasn't been done yet in the 3000 years since this major conflict... putting together a Collected Work of the Great <Insert War Title Here>. Up to this point, any writings were merely accounts of things happened, but not a collected piece of historical work or accounts. Are we on que here?
I think a fair number of us would like to see a correlation between the historian and the war, with some major or minor relative apart of the conflict or whatnot... but I still see your point as well. I suppose the dramatic side of me wants there to be some link... no matter how remote or distant.
Anyways... continue on Havoc (and let slip the dogs of war!).
