Shades of Gray

Postby Mornara » Fri May 12, 2006 1:32 am

Hey, just thought I'd throw a poem out, see what everyone thought. This is just something I wrote out in about an hour one day. It was basically my response to the type of outlook on life I was brought up with, and my opinion of said outlook!
I originally intended to use it for a school assignment, but couldn't get it finished in time. Poetry is not my strong point, so criticism is welcomed!

Shades of Gray
Life is not Black or White
The world is not all Good
But it is not all Evil
We are not of the light or of the darkness
Life is what it is
Because it has every emotion
Every Joy and every Sorrow
Every Love and every Hate
Every Smile and every Tear
For everything there is a season
A time to be born and a time to die
A time to kill and a time to heal
A time to weep and a time to laugh
A time to love and a time to hate
A time for war and a time for peace

Life is what we choose to do
With the time that is given to us
You may choose to see the darkness
Or you may choose to see the light
But I’ll take both
The shades of gray
The darkness tempered by the light
The light intensified by the darkness
They are inseparable
And together they paint a picture
Far more beautiful
Than either
Could paint alone

I disagree with you on your strong point. It was very nice and it reminds me of how I was brought up save all the lies everyone decided to feed me.
I am the poet of the body and I am the poet of the Soul. The pleasures of heaven are with me and the pains of hell are with me. The first I graft and increase upon myself, the latter I translate into a new tongue.

It leaves something unanswered--who gives us the time we are given, and why are we given this time?

I wish I knew who have us the time and why, but if I knew that, my life would be a lot easier. This is actually, for being all of less than a year old, an old poem for me. My beliefs are changing every day, and I will in time probably revise the poem.

I shall think about that though and attempt to answer it if I can!
