A Series of Unfortunate Events: The End (spoilers)

Has anyone else here read this series? I liked the series but hoped that it would have a happy ending. I was disappointed with the ending.

Other opinions?

i've read about half of the series and really enjoyed them.

i haven't read the last book yet... it would be nice to see a happy ending for the Baudelaire children, but you have to admit that the author DID warn you that this wouldn't be the case - several times over in fact! lol
i'm going to have to finish the series.

have you seen the movie? if so, what did you think about it?

I liked the movie. It was what motivated me to start reading the series in the first place. I'd watch the movie again; I see that it is on some satellite channels now.

I remember the movie as being visually rich and well-acted.

i thought much the same. it was one of the few cases where the movie was very close to how i had seen the story in my imagination. the colours, the slightly twisted reality of even ordinary objects, places and people, and the actors did a good job.

i had read the book first, which usually makes you a more demanding viewer, but i still enjoyed it and wasn't disappointed.
