I thought the final scene was priceless, something that Alan Lee should make a piece out of and sell to the fans :)

I'm not sure about the price since I got it like the first day it came out.

I finally got a copy (for about $14.00)

I agree that it was like reading The Lord of the Rings the first time, way back when, but to me, the story was a bit "broad stroked", and only got down to details here and there, compared to LotR, which was very detailed in the telling.

I liked it anyway, even though it did end in tragedy.

I've not read it, but have read The Silmarillion. The ending is dark dark.
