Thrones and Bones Frostborn
By Lou Anders
Thrones and Bones, Frostborn, is the first book of a series. It does come to an end, and it leaves a few adventures to look forward to in the next book.
Thrones and Bones is about Karn, whose main interest is playing Thrones and Bones, and Thianna, half Frost Giant and half Human. Both children are on the run for different reasons, and they meet and combine skills and talents, becoming friends. They encounter trolls, a dragon, dwarves, Frost Giants, wyverns, and undead warriors. They must use their talents to escape harm.
The world of Thianna and Karn is well-developed, the main characters are written so that the reader cares about them, the pace is comfortable. There are fighting scenes as well as humor. The children learn about themselves and about other beings.
I enjoyed Thrones and Bones and intend passing it along to my 9 year old granddaughter.
The book was given to me to read, which did not affect my review.

It is interesting, Ariel. I am always trying to find books to encourage the grandchildren to read.
