Fixing Login Problems

Postby The Master » Wed Aug 16, 2006 4:20 pm

Aug 19, 2008 update for those who might be having trouble after our forum upgrade.

For other issues read on:

[hr]
I have had some members email me saying they are having trouble logging in.

When you log in we store your session using a cookie (a small text file stored by your browser). Sometimes this cookie can become corrupted and the forum has trouble reading it correctly.

To fix cookie errors, clear your browser's cookies and restart your browser. This will let our forum set a new, clean, cookie and your login should work flawlessly again. Periodically clearing out cookies is a good general maintenance idea anyway to get rid of old, unused ones and ad network "spybugs".

To Clear Cookies:

Privacy Menu
Cookies Tab
Click "Clear Cookies Now"

INTERNET EXPLORER
Tools
Internet Options
General Tab
Click "Delete Cookies..."

Reminder: Restart your browser before logging back in to force it to get a fresh page.

Thank you! It worked for me. I only deleted SV cookies. But now I'm back. :)

Good note...if you know how to do it you can easily remove ONLY the Speculative Vision cookie.

It actually looks like my tinkering may have caused the cookie problem so sorry about that!

Bad Master! :smt072

For the oddballs among us...

Opera (most versions.)
Tools drop down menu
Preferences Tab
Advanced Tab
Cookies Sidebar
Manage Cookies Button
Select desired cookie and hit the Delete Button.

Also under Tools/Preferences/Advanced/Cookies/ there's a check box that indicates..."Delete new cookies when exiting Opera."

Checking that box will make Opera delete all the cookies when you exit your browser. Something that is a good thing.
