D&D : How to get PC's together for the first time.
Aldan I do not think that type of guitar would work here.

Myself...Psionicist/Monk. (At least that's what I always played in Dark Suns slavery start.)
You don't need weapons, armor, spell books, or material components. Just your bad *beep* self.
Aldan they were your stereotypical dumb barbarian types. HACK, SLASH, KILL! but that doesn't belay the point that when your empty handed, a rock or stick looks mighty inviting.

I agree with Q

I think that's where Dark Suns kind of dropped the ball. I imagine they envisioned the gaming world as a bleak Roman-esqe world where it was difficult to do anything (the whole obsidian blade, magic drew off of nature thing) regardless of what class you picked for your PC, but a Psionicist/Monk wasn't bound by the difficulty of gaining energy (draining nature) to cast spells, or finding rare metals (steel or iron) to have a decent weapon.

Then again, in such a start, a straight Fighter class has a definate edge over the other classes under 3.5 ed. rules. Being able to weild any weapon he/she may find with skill and wear any armor they may find.

Well thats about all a fighter gets...well a CRAP-load of feats and a good base attack bonus...but nothing more. I think that the fighter class was well put together.

Ah well , not my problem. I'm usually a monk, rouge, or mage...one of the three....nothing much more out there for me to like.

Childhood friends. All the PC's grew up together and now one of the childhood friends is murdered. The remaining friends (the PC's) gather together to find the murderer.
Again the problem with such a start is that it limits the background of a player's character into fitting into the scenerio.

not to mention it is kind of hard to broden the story with that start.
